Dear editor, “The man was barely noticed as he penetrated the glistening, white shroud that coverd the town square; Size ten feet in size eleven boots leaving craggy craters in their wake.” Who is this man who invades a quiet New England town? His motives are unclear and the town of Redfield is unprepared for events that will catapult them into a vicious battle between good and evil. The characters in the story are small town Americans. Jo Sutton and Gert Gibbons are friends and a...

Here is the deal, the main thing, the crux of it all, the thing that takes center stage. My Jesus hanging on a cross made of aluminum, bending and whining from the weight of bleeding wrists. He hangs there, buckling at the waist, as I try to write the verse that will straighten the cross, clot the flow of blood, shock the heart into a regular rhythm and divert tears into a prickly spray that will put out the fire that burns the tips of my fingers and leave ashen stains upon parchment; like fi...

Chapter One Christmas was in full bloom and the fragrance intoxicated everyone. Kids scurried through aisles and dodged street traffic, side by side with the well-heeled and those without souls. Beggars' smiles are widened in expectation, as shoppers with visions of It's a Wonderful Life dancing in their heads dropped money into their cups and jars. Some of the homeless peered longingly through shop windows and the street children sang Christmas carols and made wish lists. Jo and Gert sit sip...

I have tried for years to write the story to tell it like a tale. Because all that remains is the tail of the monster Spiked and thrashing and the mouth, full of pointed, dripping teeth, widened to a ghoulish grin exhaling fetid breath. Do you want a smoke with your bath? No thanks. I’ve locked the doors so no one will know You’re smokin’ in the tub My naked body soaked in suds shrivels Where’s mom and Aunty Em? Gone out shoppin’ girlie, won’t be back for h...

I enjoyed the rawness of this piece combined with the tender sentiments. The story is compelling and it is written in a way that kept me interested and wanting to read more. I also liked the pace of the piece. Just a couple of things: Never before have I known such a sweetly pain-filled word...what word are you referring to? I think I know, but I think most readers like things spelled out. dangled carelessly...is 'carelessly' necessary? Dangled implies carelessness and the adverb might weaken...

Every minute spent with you reminded me of death, because it's when we're about to die that we really begin to live.(Yes! Very true) This is a powerful piece and I like the way it is written in small chapters/slices of a life. The contrast between daisies and dope is great; evil bruises and fiery eyes say so much about this girl; the teachers faded bruises and the girls fresh ones; foster homes and drug abuse. Much is said in what is not explained, and does not need to be explained due to the...

Page 1-The first line is a grabber. That's good:) The description of the well dressed man is very good. Page 2-The smoking scene is subtle and conveys the power and arrogance of the well dressed man. Page 3-'in his stomach danced to the rhythm of the lights,' then later the 'dancing in his stomach changed from salsa to a waltz.' I love these lines Page 9-drop you like a cheating wife! Love this:) Page 11-like a madman:watch out for clinches I'm not much of a fight fan, but this feels like an ...
