I’m a journalism major. I’m intending on joining the peace-corps once I graduate and spending 2 years elsewhere. I’m very interested in other cultures and especially religions. I try to take everything in with an open mind, but if you do not tolerate other religions and points of view, then I won’t bother with you. As far as I’m concerned, you are then blacklisted and should be left out of any intellectual discussion.

Towards the latter part of the summer of 2007, Eric Spafford, Jared Vryhoff, and myself decided to take a little road trip to Assateague Island, Maryland for a few nights, just to get out of Central New York. What this turned into though was four days of debauchery, decadence, and deranged humor that brought us all a little closer to one another. The trip down was about 300 miles, but mapquest.com had not aided me one bit. We drove blindly into Binghamton, New York, and proceeded to get a roa...

There I am, sitting in the office of Donald Birkenshriner, Editor in Chief of the New York Times. Well, I’m more or less in the waiting room, which coincidentally is a waiting room to enter another waiting room where a group of black tied thugs weed out potential journalists all vying for the same position. Some would call it slave labor, but journalists such as myself see it as a gateway to Mecca; playing co-reporter for any reporter on that staff that needs it. Talk to witnesses, doub...

Through simple observation, anyone can see that religion and politics in America are clearly intertwined. How can this be though? America not only founded itself on, but also prides itself on the separation of Church and state. Even in the year 2008, we still have not completely kept the church and state separate from one another. It seems that the two only come closer together as time goes by. Even as recently as our current election, candidates are still being asked questions about their fa...

Police officers are viewed to be the standard of an upright, outstanding citizen, but when they break the law; many officers become as tight-lipped as members of the mob, which can prove to be harmful to the cities they serve. In July of 2008, officer Patrik Pogan was video taped pushing a cyclist off of his bike during a monthly demonstration by a group known as Critical Mass. Pogan has since been stripped of his badge and gun, and the New York Police Department "placed the offic...

I would first like to say that I enjoyed the use of visualization very much. You use the technique quite well. The poem itself strikes me as someone who is just starting to go through their mid-life crisis. I would imagine this being the thought process prior to buying that shiny new Porsche. The first two lines: "From selfish needs a distraction hatches; this childish crisis to catalyze my doubt." set the theme for me. The selfish needs is the desire to be young again and to do everything th...

Unfortunately I can't say that I was terribly impressed with this story. I was interested in the story until it got to the part, “'OK. One thing before you buy: that lipstick has been known to magnetize articulated lorries.'” This seems a little extreme of a situation to be comical, kind of like joking about murder to put it another way, it's funny to a point, and then you just "jump the shark". Perhaps had the lipstick solely be magnetized, it would have worked a little better, you would the...

This piece was very entertaining to read, the only thing that I really stumbled over was the last line. Your mind wouldn't wonder to itself, it physically cannot. This should be changed to "I wondered to myslef which I am more apt to do." Also when meeting parents for the first time, no matter what the situation is, I'm sure no one would generally say "oh shit" out loud, but that's just a personal thing. Overall the piece was funny, and entertaining all around, nicely done.
