Well I’m 21 and have only recently started writing. I actually started my book last spring and I’m only a few chapters in so its a bit of a slow go. Mostly just winging it without much of a plan. My sister kind of got me into wanting to write, her and an author she got me hooked on. It made me want to be able to bring those kinds of emotions out in people with something I write.

I know I’m still young and therefore my work won’t be all that great yet, but live and learn. I’ve tried getting other people to read what I have so far but I think this site is one of the best ways to get back info and help me to improve my work.

I know lots of people write fantasy and everyone has there own ideas, but I hope mine is truly unique. I feel …

It was a dark night. Heavy rain laden clouds were blowing in from the west, blocking out the bright full moon overhead. Only the light from the fireflies buzzing on the cool night air made anything visible. Even those lights flickered off and on as an almost silent flap of wing swooped down to claim another of the brightly glowing insects. The owls weren’t the only ones hunting. Two shadows moved along the top of a high ridge. A vast meadow occupied one side, a small farm house the other. The...

It was the screams that woke him. Gasping, Connor sat up rigid in bed. The images of his dream flash in front of his eyes a moment, then fade away. He raises a shaky hand to try and rub them away. Wiping the sweat from his forehead, he looks around the dark room trying to discern where he might be. Unable to make anything out in the dimness, he collapses back on the bed, letting out a long shaky breath. Hearing a noise in a room beyond his, Connor snaps his head over in the direction of where...

He stares back at Shila, trying to comprehend what she had just said to him. After a minute he lets out a small unsure laugh. “You really expect me to believe that?” he asks becoming aggravated. “ If it is really true and I am a descendant, then why have I never heard of this before. It would mean my father would have known and would have told me. He was a soldier years ago and it would have happened to him while he was fighting. I’ve never heard anything of the sort. He would have said somet...

The sounds of battle crept in. It was faint but still there, recognizable. He had never heard it before but knew without a doubt what it was. The sound grew louder, closer. Then the smell hit him. It was everywhere. He couldn’t smell anything but the acrid stench of battle. Nothing but blood and sweat lingered in the air. It was everywhere. He thought he should be sickened by how strong it was, but he wasn’t. It was simply there for his senses to take in. The sound and smell grew with each pa...

As he steps through the door and into the small house, Connor looks around, scanning the dark front room for the old woman. Looking ahead to the table at the back of the room where he normally sees her sitting, Connor squints his eyes trying to make out anything there, but sees nothing. Moving ahead a few steps he looks around the familiar room, letting his eyes adjust to the darker interior. To his left and pushed in a corner, is the large ceiling high bookcase stacked full of books that he ...

I think this is quite well written so far. You have a good set of characters with distinct personalities that help to keep them seperate in the story. The only thing I didn't especially like was how you jumped back and forth between the man in the cave and Lauriana's party so early on in the story. I see why you did it but it tends to be a bit confusing when someone has to read two different story's right away in the first chapter of a book. It seems that Lauriana has some sort of powers in t...
Sci Fi & Fantasy / Disappearing Act-Intro & Part 1
A bit of a different take on the rapture, if thats what you meant this to be. Since there seems to be a few religious things mentioned and Crew will be going to church the next morning, it sounds like the rapture is what actually happened. If it isn't then you did a good job of convincing readers otherwise and will surprise them with whatever you have planned. The only thing I didn't really agree with is when Crew apparently saw Audrey in the bar, but didn't do anything. If they were engaged ...
To be honest I laughed after reading the first sentence. Not because of anything bad but just because something almost exactly like that happens in my story. I was a bit lost since I haven't read the first chapter yet so im not sure why the village was attacked and destroyed and where the main character was so that he didn't get killed also. It sounds like this is supposed to be set in medieval times since you are using words like tavern and the village the character comes to has a gate aroun...
Short Story / Maybe-Man
Well this was an interesting story here. It feels like it could come from something actually happening in your life and you wanted to vent it out in here. Well you certainly got your point across. If this isn't part of your life then you have a very good ability of creating certain feelings between 2 people. Short but with a good amount of emotion. Keep it up.
Well for starters, the title makes me think of vampires. It doesn't look like there will be any in your story, but slayer makes me think of vamps, might want to keep that in mind. So far it looks like you have a good idea of where the story is going. There are some parts I'm not quite sure about, that reading further would help with, such as the elemental runes and what part they play in the story. I'm assuming they play a part magically in the story, but it would be interesting to see what y...
