My name is Betsy.  I live in Cincinnati, OH.  I went to Interlochen Arts Academy in Northern Michgan for high school.  I am a recovering addict.

I work as an esthetician and write poetry on the side.  I also have a band that I sing lead for.  I live an interesting life—very different than the WASP suburban upbringing I had.

I used to nude model.  I used to be married.  I try not to live in the past.

This is my work.  I would like to get it published.  I hope that you enjoy reading it and that you find it thought-provoking.

To my fans: If you only knew how conceited I really am, you would flinch. I have nothing but pins and needles for brains, and yet some sort of projected logic is constantly being bestowed upon me from Oz, the Great and Terrible. I will let you all in on a little secret...you will not believe me, you will all think I am simply being poetic~melodramatic, if you're a critic. But I live my life like I'm teetering on top of Earth in an heirloom Appalachian rocking chair--rocking wildly! Back and f...

Oh yes, there is a single, purifying joy When the pen of my ten tongues Ignite haloed eyes into sacred lakes With the blooming fire of my heart's belly. This language bridges troubled waters In a waterfall of light Pouring like a rainbow from both sides-- Singing and grieving in rivers of mercy That must be walked upon with steadfast feet To reach the outerbanks. There is no other way, and my soles itch To begin dancing upon the mountains of my words.

But for me, Whoever I may be, There has become A definable one-- Someone who empties me Of myself Because we face ourselves When we face each other. Where I thought there were but two lives, When we touch to join hearts Singular joy Springs forth richly, And all our love and sorrow Is crowned with Light.

Poetry / Andy Knew God
This is a very interesting poem. I don't like to suggest lines to anybody, but I think that stanza 4 is the weakest in the bunch and needs something a bit more motivating, a bit more forceful and direct--it seems like ur right out there for the rest of the poem but u hide a bit in this stanza...perhaps an intentional device but for me it loses the driving quality of the rest of the piece. Otherwise though, I liked this poem very well--I think the last line is a bit on the melodramatic side bu...
Sounds a little on the silly side but this could be fun. I never considered caterers "fighting the man" per se, but I find it amusing and think that the story could be quite good given that it's a little tongue-in-cheek. The Mussolini reference is a bit odd but I may be missing something since I'm not an enormous history buff. Good luck and interested to hear about the story!!!
Poetry / The Muse
At first I thought, "groan, every single effing word rhymes in this poem," but I actually ended up liking it because I thought it was cleverly wrought. I don't think it's going to be the launching pad for ur literary success, but it was still an enjoyable read.
Poetry / Teapots
I thought it was a bit on the sentimental side.
Horror / Fields of Fear
Forget the last line. It's redundant. And try to tighten things up a bit. Otherwise, I very much like ur style and the craft that has been put into this story. The difference between the dream world and waking life were very well wrought--I actually enjoyed the quick change from the "fields of fear" to ur character's relatable interaction with her mother...convincing and intriguing.
