When In-Hwan asked me to mail him a poster of a famous skateboarder, we had been casually dating almost 3 months. I dreaded the post office. I don’t consider myself petulant, but in the Korean post office I become huffy almost immediately. Today was no exception. I brought in the poster carefully packaged in a shipping tube with the address written in large letters across the side. “Is it okay to send the package like this?” I asked the woman behind the counter. The other tw...

Unclassified   Returning to Korea is a journey that most adoptees submit to take. It begins with a pang of disconnect from family or country, or a twinge of curiosity. Some come to Korea with high expectations of meeting familiar smells, sounds and places. Others come as tabula rasa explorers of the country, looking for new things they can connect to. I went hoping to reach a place I belonged. Finding that place was harder than it seemed. When I stepped off the plane that took me...

I really liked this story. It had elements of a rough Quentin Tarantino character, minus the drugs. Chris is a hard guy, but his last line has a touch of sensitivity. Was Saffron modeled off of Absolutely Fabulous's Saffron? Some things to consider: You have a lot of characters and you switch back and forth between them, sometimes not letting the reader know who you're talking about. I had to re-read a few parts to figure that out. That could be avoided by switching some pronouns to people's ...

i love what you have done here. the allegory of the boat is great, and you keep referring back to the darkness of the water which is useful to keeping the poem cohesive as one poem and not a series of stanzas. the fifth stanza, first line, i think its okay to use old english/yoda english if you use it throughout the poem. i could also understand using it if you were trying to keep the syllables uniform. as it stands it is a bit jarring--like i focus on the sentence instead of what the poem is...

This is a great little piece. I really love the comment about world peace. The story about the guy who thinks he was in the Fantastic Four is also a great distraction from the story at hand. Maybe you could even develop it further so that the audience also forgets what the man's intention is. A few things: ~Barium Chloride is actually hazardous to your skin, too. Maybe the guy should just look at the cup instead of putting his finger in it. look here for more info: http://www.ilo.org/public/e...
