Poetry / Once Past
Sifting through these ashes
finding only fragments of
an answer found before
the flesh of my thoughts
march their way down the page
like Greek philosophers:
searching for the flames
as though enchanted by Pandora
while I am dragged behind like
Ephemetheus: docile to her charms
I’ve danced circles
‘round the fires at Delphi chased
sphinx tails at the foot of the Throne of
Zeus caught lightning in a bottle and
watched it slowly sear my eyes:
knowing it would, yet desiring it’s charge
for all fools still seek to know what
they should not yet
the liver grows back; the eagle returns
and all men forget the fate of their fathers
if only to be burned by the knowledge
themselves

I enjoyed the poem, and understand the references and correlations you are trying to make here. But the poem ends on a understated note, it leaves me feeling like something is lacking, or left unsaid. I’m note sure if that is helpful, but that’s what I got out of it. I would suggest either reworking the last line or try adding another line to it.
