Poetry / Untitled No. 47
You told me you needed time
to think about us.
Trying to be understanding
I let it go
told you to take whatever time you needed
and I would wait
not wanting to interfere,
to influence you
but to be fair
although that was not how I really felt.
I want to be with you
to feel you by my side in my sleep
to smell your hair
to hold your body in my arms.
I want to know that when I speak
and say something stupid
that you will be there to catch it
and throw it back at me.
I want to be engaged by you.
But having promised you
what you asked
if not what you need
or possibly want even
I am tied to my word
forced by my traitor tongue
and principles
to remain silent in my defense.
I turn to my true voice
this flawed pen
and lie here awake
missing you
unsure even if you are truly gone
or just hidden from my sight
blinded by self-inflicted pain.

Wow! I really like this one. Really. It took a few reads before I truly understood. It has a lot of hidden undertones. I’ve been in your shoes before. You voice that feeling well. Intrigued to know what’s going on “there.”
