I’ve seen people do a lot of dumb things while driving. Shaving isn’t normally one of them, but hey… if we drink, answer our cell phone, change the radio, put on makeup… why not shaving too?
Flash Fiction / Car Accident
“SHIT! This is not happening!” He screamed in frustration, wiping and smearing blood on his white shirt. One minute, he was driving, talking on his Bluetooth headset and changing the song on his radio with the other hand. He looked away for mere microseconds, and SCREECH! He jerked the wheel. He cut himself shaving again!

I’m really not sure what you meant by cutting yourself shaving but on second read you accomplished what the last definition states by taking me one direction and finishing somewhere else. Not bad but not my cup of tea.

WTF? i realize flash fiction is about jawdropping twists but i don’t understand how he went from neglecting the road to cutting himself shaving. Mind clarifying?
“Injured? suffering pain? A note from a doctor to Mendocino Cannabis Dispensary will fill your alternative pain management needs, from Body English Breakfast Weed, to our own Purple Girl line of opiate substitutes. Log on, pay with Wastercard, and get a free ‘MCD! We Give A Care!’ fridge magnet…(Void where this ad constitutes conspiracy.) ”
Ah… he was shaving and driving at the same time… talk about multitasking… now how could he drive, change the radio and shave?
Great! Got me on the first read. I’m posting one as well. :) May have finally gotten me off the haiku kick of the past month.
This is freaking awesome! You accomplish so much with so few words. Do you need the word “mere” in there? Aren’t microseconds always “mere”? I loved this.
54… Ahah, after a third recount, 55 it is! A nice piece full of humor and intrigue. I was quite worried during the middle of it, but the last sentence is a nice ending. I’d say you have done a great job with this “55 Fiction”...but, what do I know? Nice work =]
LOL! You did get me on this one. I have to try this form… But not right away!
I would change “driving” to “navigating”.
I am not sure that the snapshot and change lines are necessary – can you find better lines that add more value?
Why are the consequences dire? This leaves too many questions unanswered in my opinion.
Hope this helps.
hey
wow nano-fiction, what an intriguing idea I think I really must try it. Liked the piece, didn’t see the meaning until the end (which is the point as I’ve been told). It works well yet the word driving is problematic, dont see how you drive when shaving (unless it’s a very tenous link) perhaps a more ambigous word could replace it ‘cos at the moment i was surprised at the end by linguistic burglary :P
thanks for posting
Benjy :P
