Poetry / To The Figure In Front of Me
You looked different
When I knew you.
Not so…
Wax.
Like the face in the museum
Third-grade field trip
When all the little girls giggled.
But wait: don’t I still know you?
Or only know of you?
Knew you?
Another piece of gossip
To drift around for awhile?
Someone’s bragging rights for pain?
We’re all so possessive -
Now.
Some things still whisper in our ears
Long after
They’ve bowed their leave.
You were cheated
From a full cup
Of living
But if you’d like
I can try to do the job.

I read it a couple of times. I wish I could understand. Is this at someone’s funeral? I get that impression from …
‘They’ve bowed their leave.
You were cheated
From a full cup’
Please let me know…I feel like this piece may be unfinished.

I will admit that it is interesting, but it almost seems incomplete, like there is so much more left to be uncovered. As a reader, I was almost left wanting. I needed more than what the poem gave me and I think you will be able to expand on the poem if you contemplate the emotions you express in this piece of work . If you think a little deeper, I think you will find that you can write so much more.
