Poetry / Roused Love
It is said of Love
it shall not be awakened
until it so desires…
Why then does it malinger so
at the doors to my heart?
Does it frolic about its path
unawares of its desires?
[Or does this desirous nature
thwart my inner notions?
Notions of which I cannot speak
lest the utterings of such
would render them true]
Is it not the love of another
that awakens this dreamer?
Why then does it clutch so
to the very thread of me?
Why shall it insist on pursuing
this aching heart?
Shall not it rest awhile
to return at its allotted time?
Shall it keep its path
to drive me mad?
I cannot bear its ceaseless knock!

I think this is a beautifully written piece but something about it bothers me. I have read it through several times and I think it lies in the first three lines…they seem to contradict the remainder of the poem – at least in my readings love was awakened and it so desired so why beg all the ensuing questions. It becomes like a contradiction wrapped up in a connundrum confused by the question.
