Short Story / Just a wish, you say?

Just a wish, you say

Run and hide Braydon, you won’t want to be seen.
By a red-eyed monster bigger than a dog, dirty and green.
They jump from out of the pond, splashing water everywhere,
slick and slimy skin with strands of purple hair.
Their tongues are long and sticky, and they roar like a lion,
they’ll eat whatever walks and anything that’s flying.

What are those red-eyed green monsters that are bigger than dogs?
Don’t worry Braydon they’re just frogs.
Just frogs you say?
Oh I would be a frog any day.
Braydon why would you want to be a nasty red-eyed frog?
A creature that eats whatever walks or flies and sleeps upon a log.

Oh Kayleigh, haven’t you ever wished upon a falling star?
Or ever  wanted to be someone or something other than the person you are?
Braydon some people wish when they see a star fall in the night,
and some never wish at glowing balls of white.

                                                                                                                                    Pg.2
, “Watch out Braydon, you were almost smacked by a big white ball.
It was three feet wide, and stood three feet tall.
They had wings like an eagle strong and wide,
with claws like a lobster hanging by their side.
Kayleigh what are those green-eyed balls that fly?
Don’t worry Braydon, they’re just fireflies.
Just fireflies you say?
I would be a firefly any day.
I would fly wherever the wind blows,
lighting up a dark night with a bum that glows.
Go ahead Braydon, make a wish to be a bug.
Make sure you wish to be a firefly and not a slug.
Slugs ooz their goo along the ground sliding on a slick belly.
Sticky and icky bugs filled full of strawberry and grape jelly.
A body made of jelly you say?
Kayleigh I would love to be a bug with a belly filled full of jelly any day .
I’d have all kinds of friends if I were a slug.
Peanut butterflies would love to fly around with a belly full of jelly bug.
You’re so silly Braydon, slugs can’t fly,
and there is no such thing as a peanut butterfly.
No such thing Kayleigh? Well there has got to be,
I saw thousands of peanut butterflies flying around this oak tree.
Those were just butterflies Braydon, and slugs aren’t really made of jelly
. One flies through the sky and the other crawls on his belly.
Just butterflies you say?
I would be just a butterfly any day.
My wings painted beautiful shades of blue and red.
I would sing and dance above the pond using cat tails for a bed.

                                                                                                                                     Pg.3
Braydon, you would not fly above the pond for long.
A red-eyed green monster lives in there, he sings a croaking song.
Kayleigh! I am not afraid of a frog,
unless it’s bigger than a dog
. Braydon, a frog bigger than a dog you say?
With one wish a frog could be bigger than a dog any day.
Oh Kayleigh, I would love to be a red-eyed green monster with purple hair.
I would eat whatever walks, crawls, and flies, splashing water everywhere.
Braydon those red-eyed monsters eat bugs,
peanut butterflies, and belly full of jelly slugs.
Kayleigh, I cannot be a frog that eats all of the things that I wish to be.
I’ll make a wish upon a falling star to be just me.
Just you , you say?
Braydon, you can be you any day.
Hey Braydon, did you see that bug fall from the night sky?
You’re so silly Kayleigh, bugs don’t fall they fly.
That was just a star falling in the night,
leaving behind silly wishes and a trail of light.
Just a star you say?
Braydon I would be a star filled with silly wishes any day.
You’re so right Kayleigh, it would be wonderful to be a star hanging from the night sky.
If I were a star I’d sing and dance like a bumble bee I’d fly.
You’re so crazy Braydon, stars do not have wings,
or sing, dance, and have a stinger that stings.
Stars twinkle and hang from the sky,
humming to children a sweet lullaby.
I do not want to be a star that hums,
a bug with a light bulb stuck to his bum.
A nasty green-eyed frog
with a slick and slimy body bigger than a dog.
Peanut butter and jelly bugs I don’t want to be,
I’ll wish upon a shooting star to be just me.
Just me you say?
Braydon you can be you any day.
There isn’t a wish that can be wished that could make you better than the person you are.
You are not just you, just as a star, isn’t just a star.
Watch out Kayleigh, a dragon just flew by your head,
smoke and fire bellowed out of his mouth, streams of orange, black, and red.
That was no dragon Braydon, it was just a fly,
an insect with two sets of wings, and two big eyes.
Kayleigh, just a fly you say?
Yes Braydon I know, you would be a dragonfly any day.
