Poetry / Please Distract Us From the Truth

Tell us lies.
Lie to us and tell us that the war on terror was not waged for the benefit of the oil companies.
Tell all Americans that the government does not use fear tactics to erode away at our constitutional rights.
Let all citizens be relieved when they hear that weapons of mass destruction were indeed found and Iraq was invaded for national security reasons.
Remind us that the Patriot Act was made to protect us and not to expand executive powers.
Keep taking our moms, dads, husbands, wives, sons and daughters from us to rebuild a nation that has not really been destroyed by our own forces.
Let us know when we our on high alert for a terror attack so we can put more faith in our government to protect us.
Keep making nuclear weapons and remind us that our country needs them but other countries do not.
Wage war in more countries because we are not the terrorists, they are.
Make those who question the government and hold it accountable seem like unpatriotic citizens.
Allow us to be misinformed by a national news channel that only tells us one side of the story.
Let us forget that certain national election results were tampered with and there is no reason to think that our vote may not count.
And listen to our conversations by wire-tapping our phones because we know the enemy is among us.
Let our freedom of speech and religion be ripped away because we really don’t want to hear, read or see an opposing opinion or believe another religion.
Make sure we are distracted by more important things like high gas prices because if we just had some more oil the price of gas might go down.
Tell us that the greenhouse effect does not really exist and that it is not just a time between ice ages.
Tell us lies because we don’t really have the time to think about all of this.
Tell us lies because we already have so many other things to worry about.
Please distract us some more because the truth really hurts.

‘we our on high alert ’- are on

Interesting but I feel that this retreads information that we already know. And have known for a while. Farenhiet 9/11 and Loose Change have been out a few years. Particularly in Journalism, you want your info to be contemporary. It is also laid out like a poem, not an article.

Hmm, i must say that your sample is worth reading. Actually i liked it and i am speechless, so don’t wonder if my review will be short. It IS! very truthful, i like the way you tell everything you don’t like about the American government. And your style of writing  in this case makes you really think about all these problems…

I wish you good luck with your future articles. I am looking foward to reading them!

Keep working

Nastya

(i liked this sentence very much “Wage war in more countries because we are not the terrorists, they are.” )

Although this was easy to read I felt like it was more a “rant” than actual journalism…someones personal opinion..without any real facts backing up what is being said..this piece would not sway me to the side of the writer..because there are no dates or facts backing up the claims…as someone from generations of military..I have a hard time with things written this way because if it weren’t for those who protect us..we wouldn’t be free to write these sort of things to begin with….Besides…I haven’t forgotten 911…give me facts that can be proven through public records…to back up these things being said then maybe I can see this side.  hope this helps..sorry if it offends..don’t mean to

This does not read like a column one bit as you are well aware of I am sure. The poem format does not help it as a column. The simple sentences make it easy to read. But you may not accomplish what you want by writing poetically. You idea is fine and it would be easy to turn this into a real column. You would have to establish a base. Insert support for the issues. It would be easy for someone to argue against every statement by simply saying… “I do.” This piece is an opinion detircted at nobody (or group) specific. It might give the piece power if it is directed at someone/thing. I think its a nice poem.
