Poetry / Nicotene
It’s a thick layer of nicotine
It stains the walls
It seeps through the threads of this cotton I wear
It’s nicotine and it’s everywhere
Everywhere I breathe
Everywhere that I see
Its nicotine
I look to it for guidance
I turn to it in times of stress
It’s my security blanket in times of need
Its nicotine
I have a dear friend of mine that has been sucked into the evil spell of depression. Depression is a scary thought, it’s a frightening feeling. I should know well, not personally, but an acquaintance, for it infected my closest love. What is in the mind of those that are drowning in sadness? What is it that prevents them from being able to see the light of day? What is it that continually drags them to the depths of below? I wish at times that I could just kneel before them and place my hands beneath their chin and tilt their eyes to the sky, and point to the blue that surrounds us daily. I wish I could remind them that what is out there is possibility which can turn to beauty, and that with life comes risks, and with risks that we take daily, at times comes failure. But that failure doesn’t have to be the villain that it can be a sort of guidance to follow. And just as one can clear the room of nicotine, and quit, they can pick themselves up and live without the clutter and smothering of the darkness that calls them daily. Only if it was that easy? Some are dealt with a horrible hand, a hand that they may run, from the break of day to the light of the moon. My thought is though, you can run yourself into the ground, but you can’t completely run away. Because what is stored in your mind, will forever be there waiting for the day that you except that these things have happened, yes it may have not been fair, but you cant erase it….so you must except it, deal with it, and in time let it go. Just let it go… Only if it was that easy? Like resisting the craving of nicotine.

I was a smoker for 9.5 years so I know what you’re talking about.
The thing is that you think you need it, without it you’re miserable, but
I don’t see non-smokers being miserable like a smoker deprived of a puff,
and I don’t see smokers enjoy life when they light up more than non-smokers.
Nevertheless, you said it like it is, things that people get from it,
“security blanket” being the key expression.
