Poetry / A pirate takes a wife

Avast ye maties
listen up n’ listen well
I ‘ave th’ strangest tale t’ tell
‘bout the wedded day of a scurvy dog ‘n ‘is proud beauty
‘an ‘ow they took t’ sea t’ find pirate booty

th’ storms did blow for near two week
th’ streets became quite like a creek
but low n’ be’old this day ‘n only one
out it came th’ shinin’ sun

th’ crew they looked like lords
with comely wenches they was adored
th’ cap’n groom swelled with pride
but whar was ‘is lovely bride

after while she did appear
a lovely princess she looked so dear
and as this bride came to be ‘is first mate
th’ cap’n says “boys, she’s worth th’ wait”

Th’ service was a wondrous site
th’ crew drank grog throughout th’ night
th’ next morn’ th’ cap’n n’ wife set off
to sea went they with black flag aloft

at first they landed at half moon cay
tis there they swam with sting ray
they then journey’d on to far away
to St. Thomas whar th’ pirates play

tis there they found sweet rum punch
tis also whar they drank theyre lunch
they spent thar gold on pirate ware
n’ the cap’n happed upon a poet there

tis then they sailed to San Juan city
with Manny their guide who was so pretty
at Barcardi tis thar they drank their fill
an’ at  Senor Frogs drank there as will

At Gran Turks they felt so alive
when th’ Cap’t took his helmet dive
they swam with barracuda and a shark
an’ drank with parrotheads just for a lark

That evening they dined with their dinner mates
with food so great they cleaned their plates
n’ as a special treat  th’ cap’n took th’ main stage
an’ read his Thinner  poem that was all the rage

their next day at sea was so much fun
they whooped n’ hollered till the settin’ sun
but all good things must come to pass
an’ the Cap’n came home with ‘is bonney lass

Tis true that love drove this story
an’ it ends with another kind of glory
while th’ Cap’n never found his golden looty
they each got another kind of pirate booty

i’m guessing this was actually written for a wedding and can imagine it would be great to her aloud (with appropriate raising of toasts)
should be ‘drank their lunch’ in the seventh stanza and the ‘and then they’s get a little repetitive. excellent though, i like the San Juan stanza the best.

the pirate theme caught my attention. i love the way you showed them to be at least some what caring. “th’ cap’n says “boys, she’s worth th’ wait” pirates were all about pillaging towns and all that goog stuff but they also a little soft side. the wedding/honey-moon told by a pirate with “pirate lingo” was nicely done. there was nothing i didn’t like about this poem
