Godfather of soul
James Brown has died on this day
soulful chrismas mourn
Worst time of the year
November through December
The Holidays Suck
Family gatherings
dysfunction personified
denial of truth
A time to give thanks
true meaning not remembered
just a day off work
Gluttonous banquet
celebrate stolen country
crime long forgotten
Ug ug grunt football
manly men in front of tube
sleeping off turkey
advertisement in disguise
Santa’s endorsement
The largest parade
Shopping days countdown
sales in the name of good will
the season of spend
Crowds of consumers
fight over the latest trend
at inflated price
People push and shove
no cheery dispositions
concerned with shopping
Commercialism
everything is up for sale
nothing is sacred
Advertising ploys
anything to make a buck
a giant sales pitch
Store shelves emptying
cash registers are ringing
businesses rejoice
Get me this and that
gift wish list a mile long
greed beyond belief
Parents at wits end
worry how to afford it
to make kids happy
big day approaches
final days to get it all
money gets tighter
Millions of dead trees
all lined up to be purchased
wasteful ritual
Garish light displays
electric bills skyrocketing
neighbors competing
Weather getting cold
children dream of snow fall
winter wonderland
Making snow angels
sledding down the biggest hill
having snowball war
Carolers singing
visiting neighborhood streets
bringing joy with them
Salvation Army
ringing all those stupid bells
on every corner
Holiday specials
It’s a Wonderful Life
on every channel
Children’s excitement
hoping they get what they want
dreaming of new toys
Christmas distorted
now it’s all about money
that’s why I hate it
Bah hum bug to all
take your good cheer and cram it
kiss this mistletoe

I’m not sure if this was meant to be funny, I suppose it was to some degree. I got more of a feeling of resentment and a desire to expose the hypocracy and materialism of modern society. Nicely written.
I wrote lyrics like this one year. Great job. I have friends that will love this. So many good parts – Macy’s parade, “millions of dead trees” and those stupid bells are my favorites. What’s your next subject?
You have a couple of really good haiku here. 1-6 are fresh good form and true. There are some that are different versions of what you all ready wrote. And the rest seem a bit forced. But as a whole it’s a great idea and pretty well done. It’s hard to do this many haiku in a theme and not end up being a repeat or just plain boring so I give you high marks for your effort and the first six haiku’s.

I would prefer an S on celebrate
Wits’ end needs an apostrophe.
humbug is, I think, one word
Hysterical piece
not hating the holiday
but what it now is
this is great! very honest and funny.
This is very good. I liked every verse but my favorite was the largest parade advertisement in disguise. I gave this a 9
They were well written haikus, but I hate to see you are not in the Christmas spirit. Christmas isn’t just about these things, it’s also about families being together, laughing, and love. But good job on the haikus. One that I probably agreed with the most was the one about the Salvation Army. Those bells can get annoying, can’t they? I liked the ones towards the middle best.

If you could make more like that, you could have haikus that were brighter and happier. But I do like how you put your own personal view, and the view of so many others, into these haikus. Good Job!
I love it!
Bah humbug is right!
You are a haiku master, I taught you well
Great set of Haikus. I enjoyed how you were able to point out how the corruption of the holidays have destorted the way things were before and how the true meaning of Christmas has been forgotten. Great job. Though, I personally think it would be cool to add something about how things are changin’ to political correctness…like Seasons Greatings and Happy Holdiays…all that crap. Well anyways, loved the haikus made me laugh. Keep writting such haikus they’re fun to read.
Not a bad group of haiku at all, a few were very good. But as to making people laugh, it does not come across as funny, simply bitter, focusing only on the negative, no positives except, oddly enough, no smartass remark about the carolers bringing joy and the snow activities.. The stolen country line is naive… every country has been stolen at some point, I mean really. I respect that everyone is entitled to an opinion, so don’t take my opposing opinion like a barb.
That being said, I actually liked the work, the linking of haikus, though there could have been more bleed between “stanzas”.
By the way, I don’t like Christmas either, but “It’s a Wonderful Life” is one of the best ever.
