Poetry / A Lawyer's Tale
A Lawyer’s Tale
Ah, the lawyer, the one we turn to in our time of need
Who instantly, to our demands he will heed.
But not because of good-will, but greed.
During his work he will make sure to impede
Upon the unfortunate lives
Of cheating husbands and their wives.
Others who have gotten in his way
He will try to make lie but will not sway.
While in his black Armani jacket with his greased back hair
He drives through the city without a care.
In a luxurious car paid for buy a millionaire’s heir
Who won a court battle and lost a large share
To the devious man who had won him his case
Who views money as life’s base.
The oath for truth does not matter,
For it is as meager as a bug splatter
On briberies windshield.
And to a lawyer’s indiscretions the law will yield.
Ask any judge in the field,
The best man will win who interprets the law,
Not in favor of the victim, but who shows a flaw
To a jury of the perpetrator’s peers
Gaining the accused less years,
Or none at all.
And because of the lawyer, our system will fall.

Like the rhythm (spl??). Witty. Comfortable examples of the lawyers perfidity (and I know from perfidity – I work for ‘em ;) Have you thought about re-working lines two & three. Something there makes the pace stagger. Maybe “to our demands he heeds” and “Not because of good will, no, but greed”? Just a thought

lawyers are like assholes, we all need one. those who represent themselves generally represent a fool. i agree with your last line. damn pests. there are a few good ones out there though, i am one of them. i have not passed the bar association’s test but i prevented myself from going to jail, so i passed my own test. great writing, don’t let high school get you down.
