Non-fiction / Are Internet Chathouses Causing Downfall to Physical Confrontation

Six years ago I can remember staying up until the early hours of the morning, eyes blood shot and strained. The sleep deprivation was always worth the ruckus I had caused in several internet chat houses.
On a successful night I could create hundreds of enemies and meet 25 people. I could learn of their ages, their gender, and where they live, commonly know as A/S/L (age/sex/location). The conversations were usually short involving an exchange of basic facts about ourselves and then boredom would soon after set in and lack of topics to discuss would end the conversation and lead to transfer to a new chat room and conversation.
After a half decade later, I decided to see how these same chat houses were operating in today’s growing world. I used my old greeting, entering into the “room” I said hello and asked everyone how their day was going. I was astounded to see at least five of the 40 people in there respond with a polite “how are you doing?” back.
As I reply to my first conversation in five years, we start with covered the basics A/S/L. I learn I’m talking with a  27 year old man from Florida (or so it says) during a good 15 minutes of shallow conversation he asked if I’m currently seeing anyone. Thinking what does he expect me to get up and travel the distance to date him if I claim single hood? Slightly confused and offending by this comment I try and reply in a sarcastic way stating the world is full of men and I get placed in a town of the slim pickings. This sparks the first of a series of comment expressing to me the downfall of human interaction. One comment went along the lines of him wishing he could hold.

Interesting start here.  Are you planning on taking this further?  Is this a chapter in a larger work?  I mention because it ends so abruptly.  If you go further I’d like to hear some of the man’s other comments. Also, wishing he could hold what?  You? Someone?  The answer to that question goes a long way towards leading your reader to believeing this is a creepy or insightful encounter.

You’re definitely off to a good start, though I’d fine tune the tense and grammar in cases where it disrupts the flow.  (ex:Thinking what does he expect me to get up and travel the distance to date him if I claim single hood?).

Good luck!

I think it says a lot about society.. the emphasis we place on “status,” I mean. Age, sex, location, are you single? That’s the way it goes. If you are or if you are not, initial judgement is most certainly passed.. I think whether or not a person has interest in pursuing anything further is probably inconsequential…. It’s our own personal branding, much to the dismay of many.
