I killed a man in Texas
Shot em straight through his heavy heart
It wasn’t hard, the whole thing bloated and about to burst

I’d like to say I layed em in the dust
and the coffin man came to pick up the corpse
in his shiny new death cab of a hearse

But it didn’t quite go down that way…..

He was dying anyway…...Right?
When I blew that tactless telltale heart out the front of his chest
Blood spattered across the pavement like so many spilt drops of something kinda like nostalgia

I couldn’t face him when I did it
So I shot him in the back, him on his knees, but I wasn’t the one who put him there,
or was he standing in a living room
or not sleeping on a couch

anyway, the drunk was defensless in his clarity

But I regret to say, his blood still stains my hands
and a sickly heart beat still resonates from under the floorboards of my mind

A booming tempo

penance for some crime

and you don’t help a restless soul much
when you conjur up the dead
with that two bit eyelash voodo
that can wrap a soul around a finger and scare the intellect instead

Hell, even Heaven couldn’t stamp out a God given gift to womankind
given that the gift was of God
though witchcraft it could be
but did he give it to women or witches
or are all women witches
or are women gone and only witches remain
whichever

the case

that man lost his soul to some southern tobassco drinking eyelash voodo queen

It was only fair to put him down.
It was for the best.
And God let it happen, so that must make it fair.
That I killed that man in Texas.

because he slept with Raven perched upon his chest
who preached only ‘Nevermore’
and the sap took it for gospel truth

So I had to…......... Right Lenore?

cause I led his veins bleed out
before time ran out
because his soul was leaking out
twin gutters

As it melted under the heat of a gaze redirected.
