Poetry / Veratus

I once stared God in the eye and saw him blink
Only then did I relize
It was was my own reflection I was trying to stare down.

A thoughtful re-working of the Biblical theme: we are made in God’s image. One question to ponder in your version is: what made the author feel that he/she was looking at God when he/she looked into the mirror? Was the author acknowledging the spark of God in her/himself? And why was the author trying to “stare down” the reflection?
Your poem inspires much thought. Thank you!
