Sestina

A rainy afternoon. A girl
leans against a bay window,
humming fragments of an obscure song.
She wipes the foggy panes with her hand
and gives the potted stargazer lily
a better view of the falling rain.

On the windowpane, the April rain
steaks down like tears. The girl
softly pats the leaves of the lily,
gazing at the garden outside the window,
where a narcissus collects alms in its hand.
Her bittersweet voice trickles into a swan song:

I know what it all means: the song,
the flower. Water falls like rain
from the watering tin tilted in her hand
And collects in the lily’s bulb. The girl
sighs on the glass and draws on the window
a broken heart. She sings to the lily

I can’t give you what you need. The lily
doesn’t answer. The rainy song
continues to tap against the window
like static on a record, the beating rain
growing increasingly angry. The girl
takes the flower pot in her hand

and walks out in the rain, her hand
trembling under the weight of the lily.
At the flower garden, the tear-soaked girl
claws at the muddy soil, her song
drenched silent in the April rain.
A clear puddle like a little window

forms where she digs. The fey window
reflects the girl’s slender hand
lowering the flower to the ground. The rain
applauds. Taking root, the lily.
blooms in the rain, its blooming like a song
only known by the weeping girl.

The lily gathers and opens his hands.
The girl returns to the bay window,
her song still silenced by the rain.

I must tell you this was excellent. I so much enjoyed reading your piece. There is definitely great talent from your part. It is very musical and lyrical in the same time. You created some amazing images and the way the words flow and sit next to each other is wonderful. Great piece. Keep it up.
