Poetry / Secret Love

As I sit and listen to the shadows travel across the mountains—
I am reminded of a girl I once knew—
her eyes like the cosmic trance of moon water—
her hair like two crows dancing amongst the lilacs—
her voice echoing beneath the valley of dreams and the rush of
white water uncertainties—

I wanted to reach out to her—to hold her close to my soul—
but I was afraid—afraid of rejection—broken aspirations—uncertainties—
But I was also afraid—more afraid in fact—that my attraction was external— superficial—
that I only wanted to delight in her distractive enjoyment as if I
were nothing more than a thieving devil rising from obscurity—

And before I understood the meaning of love— she was gone—
disappearing above the shadows—
absorbed by the sun from whence she was borne—
At first I felt uneasy—saddened—
then I realized that we would never be—
me and her—together in love—
holding hands forever as we walk along golden blue grass
of time—two royal colors blending
with the passion of hope and eternity—

Now—on her anniversary—I climb the mountain of
memories—and when the clouds move in—
bringing with them breezes of cool strength and lowly shadows—
I smile—because I feel her warm embrace within my heart—

True love—
Now I know I loved her—I love her still—
But that won’t bring her back—
Love can be a worn out and restless condition—
It was love that drew me to her—it was love that kept me from her—
and now it is love that compels me to remember her—

A nicely written piece.  I thoroughly enjoy the mixing of nature with emotions.  Bringing the two together and blending them with love and loss is something that I can appreciate.  Nice work.  Easy to relate to and pleasant to read, with an ending that makes any sadness easier to take on.  I have no critisisms.  Well done!
