Young Adult / Love Story
Marianne sat there thinking to herself.
"What more can I give?"
She had recently been given an ultimatum by her girlfriend.
"Give me all of you or leave."
She thought she had been giving her all, so this came as a shock and it hurt to think that her all was not enough for the woman she loved. So, she made up her mind, not easily, but she decided to leave. She moved back in with her parents and found a new job working as a medical claims specialist. It was a day like any other when Myer walked in the doctors office. She had a cold.
Myer had never been here before so Marianne had to get papers ready for her to fill out. It was then that Marianne found out that Myer was single, gay and looking. She knew this because, bluntly, Myer had asked her out on a date. Marianne turned her down and Myer's chase began.
Myer had been single for way too long, 3 years to be exact, so she was ready for the chase. She knew there was something there between Marianne and herself so she kept up until finally Marianne gave in and went on a date with her. It was dinner and a movie. GI Joe and KFC, nothing too formal. Myer was ready for the chase but knew Marianne would bail if things got too heavy.
"So, what's your story, Marianne, if i may ask?" Myer asked.
"Well I'm from Tennessee, I am 23 years old, living with my parents for the time being, and that's it." Marianne said.
Myer sighed. It was going to be a painful and long chase. After a very unsuccessful first date, Myer took Marianne home. At the front door Marianne said,
"Listen, I'm not really ready for a relationship....."
"Wait, hold up a minute, who said anything about a relationship?" Myer interrupted her.
"Can't we just have fun for a little while?"
"Fun? I guess I can handle that." Marianne said.
"Good I'm glad."
Myer didn't let on that a relationship was exactly what she was after but she had no problem waiting.
Myer came into the doctors office every day at lunch to see Marianne. Marianne loved the company. Nobody had ever bothered to visit her before at work. One day, after work, Myer was waiting for her in the parking lot. Myer gave her a hug.
"How are you?"She asked Marianne.
"I'm good and you?"
"Really good."
"Good"
"I hope you know I'm gonna get your life story out of you today." Myer told Marianne.
Marianne tensed in the hug.
"Actually, i've got some work I need to do, I'm sorry."
"OK, but I'm gonna get it out of you one way or another one of these days."
Marianne actually smiled at that and giggled.
"You are relentless." She told Myer.
"Only because I know you need someone right now, I know you are going through a really hard time, just trust me, I wouldn't be standing here right now if I thought you weren't worth my time, I'm not going anywhere."
Marianne sighed and took a deep breath in.
"I don't NEED anyone, but I do feel something for you, where do you want to go to talk?" Marianne asked Myer.
"Anywhere your comfortable."
They went to Mariannes parent's house while her parents were at work and talked for hours. Marianne talked about her most recent break up and her childhood. Her first boyfriend had raped her and that got her interested in the same sex, and she never looked back after that. Her first girlfriend was a long distance relationship and she had left her for someone else. Myer could see why Marianne didn't trust easily. When Marianne stopped talking Myer leaned in and kissed her softly. At first, Marianne didn't respond, then she kissed back passionately. She really did feel something deep for Myer. It had been three weeks since they had first met.
Marianne stopped the kiss as her parents walked in the door. Her parents were the supportive type but were still in shock. They were in their 50's. But introductions went well and Mariannes mom invited Myer to stay for dinner. Myer declined. Marianne walked Myer to the front door.
"Thank you." was all Marianne said.
Myer kissed her and walked to her car.
Marianne went back inside to set the dinner table. At dinner her parents asked her questions nonstop about Myer.
"So, how did you guys meet?" Her mom asked.
"Work." was Mariannes short reply. She was still unsure of how she was feeling about a relationship with Myer. She knew now that a relationship was what Myer wanted. She laid in bed that night and tossed and turned and was all in all very restless. She went back and forth in her mind about wanting to pursue a relationship and then not wanting to pursue a relationship. She finally decided to just let things be and see how that turned out.
Myer was full of anxiety the next day when she went to see Marianne. She was afraid she was going to lose what they had built due to the fact that they hadn't known each other for very long. She smiled when she saw Marianne, but for some reason Marianne seemed stand offish.
"What's wrong?" Myer asked her.
"Nothing." Marianne replied.
"OK....would you like to do something after work?"
"I have a family get together to go to after work."
"OK."
Mariannes facial expression softened a little bit.
"Listen, i don't think it's going to work, you and me that is."
