Haiku/Senryu / It's not the artist

It's not the artist

who decides what his art means.

It's the observer.

ive been in this situation so many times. that haiku is so versatile since it could also be quoted as a saying.

it’s a good point. i’m not sure how much i agree. i’ve always felt that the artist is the observer.

This senryu is very simple and to the point--and probably quite true.  Nonetheless, I wonder if you could say the same idea with fewer syllables--which would give you extra syllables to pack in more meaning?

Arts’ truth lies in eyes
Beyond makers’ taut, blind minds—
Creation cripples.

See?

Keep at it!

I like this piece :)
I do agree with this, though I also believe that the artist has a large hand in what his art means. But as you have stated, what the art means really depends on who is viewing it at the specific time!
Well done

Very good poem. It’s not the type for a reader to read and for us to be amused. The poem gives us a good insight on art. A very small one but it gives us one.

It’s a bit passive sounding. For example, I’d change the last line to “The observer does” as doing is active, and haikus are all about the action. As for the sentiment itself, there’s a bit of truth, but it’s a bit simplistic. After all, I could say that Hamlet was a metaphor about space armadillos invading Earth, which would cause many of my former English professors to have conniption fits.

Very nice statement about how art is interpreted in a Hai ku.  I do like it; I gave a six in the overall category because I thought that Hai Ku was supposed to be about the beauty of nature, et cetra.  I may be wrong.  Either way, good luck, and I hope this helps!

Well it’s true…even in writing. I kind right with a certain point in my mind..and somebody will review and come up with something completely different. I liked this.

An interesting message- it can frequently be the case that artists leave things open to interpretation, but sometimes there is an intended meaning in art. So as an overall statement it could be argued that it isn’t entirely accurate. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and whatnot.

This reminds me of the pic of Barack Obama made to look like the Joker. The creator didn’t have a political or racial agenda, he just messed around on Photoshop. It’s the observers who kicked up the fuss.

Good work.

Very true. “Art is in the eye of the beholder.” I’d say “Well written,” but there’s really only one way to write a Haiku. :)
