Young Adult / Bonds of Fate Book 1: Golden Sky (Prologue)
Prologue
Children’s laughter reached Kate’s ears as she walked down the market street of Terra. The country of humans. Her red lips curled into a smile, knowing that if they knew that she really wasn’t human, they would chase her out or not. Humans are so fickle. Her light brown hair was tied back into a braid that reached her hips and her bangs framed her delicate face. “Mama! Mama! She’s back!” Yelled a young boy, pulling on the skirt of his mother’s green dress with glee. Kate paused to look at the boy and his mother. “Ah, young Rick and Miss Jennifer.” Kate said approaching them while reaching into the small basket she carried. “Good day, Lady Kate” Jennifer replied, nodding. Compared to Kate’s semi-elegant crimson dress with short sleeves; Jennifer wore a simple short sleeved dress. Her bright green eyes shined softly in the sunlight and her black hair was tied up, leaving stray strands to hang over her eyes.
Her young son, Rick, grinned as he took the small candy from Kate, his dark blond curls bouncing a bit, showing that he was due for a hair cut. He wore a simple white tank top and black shorts along with brown boots. Kate smiled, loving the color of his mismatched eyes, green and blue. “Are you going to the wedding of the two heroes?” Jennifer asked only to frown when Kate smiled and shook her head. “Best if I did not go, after all, I need to meet up with an old friend” Rick pouted “But…But…” Kate smiled softly and ruffled his hair. “I might be able to come by the playground if I have time” Rick smiled widely, and stood beside his mother. “I must be off” Jennifer and Rick waved goodbye. “May the Goddess Ireanna smile upon you, Lady Kate” Jennifer said. “And onto you and your family” Kate replied and walked passed them.

It was not long until Kate reached a small, quaint cottage in the countryside of Terra. The fields around the cottage are filled with all kinds of flowers and a rare sight, blue roses. ‘This is the right place’ She thought. Blue roses are her friend’s trademark, showing that she was there. Just as she was about to reach the door, it opened and a silver hair woman hugged Kate. “It has been years since I last saw you, my dear” Her voice was heavily accented when she spoke. “Indeed it has Dysis, indeed it has” Only two inches shorter, compared to Kate’s five foot three height, Dysis wore a simple white summer dress, her pale blue eyes held untold wisdom and her silver hair was pulled back by a simple blue ribbon. “Come in, come in.” Dysis said, moving aside to let Kate in. She walked in, hearing soft music coming from the quaint little living room. Dysis closed the door and disappeared into the kitchen, right next to the front door. “I’ll make some refreshments and snacks. Make yourself at home”
Kate placed her basket on the little stand left of the door and entered the living room. The furniture just consisted of bookshelves, filled with hundreds of books, a sofa, coffee table and two arm chairs. There is a fireplace, but there wasn’t a fire burning. The round windows were open, letting a small breeze inside. She sat down on the sofa, staring at the small radio on the coffee table, shaking her head. Despite Dysis age, Kate sometimes wondered about the woman, who looked twenty. Not long, Dysis walked in with a tray of tea and some small sweets, even biscuits. “Its jasmine tea” She said, setting the tray on the table. “Why do you have a radio here?” Kate asked and got a small laugh in response. “I needed a little bit of music when I read or work outside, other than going into town.” Dysis said she poured tea into two cups. The tea set looked of Chinese design. A rare sight. With a small thank you, Kate picked up her cup and it was then that she noticed Dysis staring at her. “Your mark…” She sat down with her own cup on her lap. “Where is it?”
Kate put her cup on the table and scratched her right cheek, near the corner of her eye. A piece of skin peeled off and she pulled the rest of it off, revealing a small, yet intricate mark on her cheek. “Synthetic skin” Dysis gasped in a joking way. “You didn’t" Her friend just smiled and reached for her tea once again. “Have any good stories to tell?” Dysis asked, taking a sip of her tea. “Yes, I do” Dysis smiled, placing her tea on the table and standing up. She walked over to the bookshelf on the far right. Her guest watched curiously as Dysis pulled out a small crystal ball from a small, velvet case and walked back. Placing it on the table, it began to melt, creating a fairly large, crystal rectangle floating in between them like a screen.
“There” Kate chuckled and took a quick sip of her tea. “Making another book?” She asked and Dysis nodded. “Of course, I enjoy reading your stories and watching them as you tell them” With a sigh, Kate’s hazel eyes met Dysis’ pale blue eyes through the crystal screen between them. She reached out a hand and gently touched it. It was warm to her touch as it glowed softly, images speeding by in reverse. When everything became white, Kate pulled her hand back and relaxed on the sofa with a content sigh. “This happened about three years ago…I suggest you get comfortable Dysis, because it is a long story. “ Dysis reached for her tea again and smiled. “Of course and a wonderful vision to watch” She said talking about the images she will see in the crystal as Kate told her story. Clearing her throat, the clear image faltered to show two figures with swords near a river in a forest clearing. “Once upon a time…”

This is quite the prologue. It really has the sense that can draw a person in and keep on clicking next page. The diction is wonderful and I can’t seem to find anything wrong with it. I wouldn’t exactly say that wouldn’t be able to publish this, but it would be best to wait until others see the next few chapters.

You kind of don’t explain what Kate is within the story. Sure you mention it in the notes but some how work it into the story. Like if I skipped the notes I would just know she’s not human. Detail wise I liked it. I like the setting it was relaxing. Is this going to be a story?
