Poetry / I, Me, You, or You, Me, I (Analysis)
Here’s a thought for you to ponder
Sit back--and relax--it might take a while
See you call yourself I
If you say that you went to the store today
You simply say--I went to the store
Ah wait--did you catch that?
I too call myself I
Does it make you think?
For so long I didn’t even blink
See everyone says it
I, I, I
But what’s the difference between your I, and, My I?
Where does my I end--and--your I start?
Is there a middle, in between, where all is blend?
It upsets me in truth
Your name isn’t special, perhaps more so than some
Mine never was, Jenn, as common as blue eyes
But the thing is, my I, is suppose to be special
now I see my I--is your I
And there goes individuality
To make it confusing we’ve always known
beauty is in the eye of the beholder
But if my I-- is your I
Does that mean that you are then me
And if my I is the same I that you use
Then when I look at you am I not
Looking in the mirror when I think
Damn I don’t want to be like that?
But then aren’t I saying that I don’t want to be like me?
We live in this delicate balance
Of fitting together, but retaining our own
and then one day its shattered
When you see that my I--is your I
And that all we thought was our own, we share
And don’t you dare switch over to me
People always say to be yourself
Which translates into I should always be me
But the thing is--you too have a me
And what makes your me--different than my me?
For as different as, we, can be
we both still use me
Me, me, me,
Such a selfish word at times--but in reality
Its a collective whole
all of us, differences aside combined
For non of us can deny that I am me and you are you
Which is the same as you are you and I am me
If you get it--say it with me
I am me and you are you
Which is the same as you are you and I am me
My head spinning as I try to get it down
Two channels of thoughts--mixing together
Trying to run in stereo but only processing parallel
Me’s and I’s, I’s and me’s and then there’s you
I mean when I say you
Everyone looks at you
Which if we want to go back it means they look at me?
But never mind--the point is
That when I say--you--there is no way
To determine if I mean you or the you next to you
Or sometimes I can mean all of you
So I can safely say that I hate you
Cause you can’t tell which you is you
And I can say safely that I miss you
No one will wonder why, cause they won’t know which you is you
But really I’m saying I miss me and that--yes at times--I hate me
But really I love you
Whoa! I love--who--you say?
For you is me and me is I
Which of course is also you
I don’t know perhaps we’ll all just be
