Quotes / Passion

I don’t think passion is something people try to make sense of. Passion is more an action, an moment in time where our emotions consume us. This quote, to me, makes it seem like you are trying to analyze passion even though you quote says you cannot. I don’t know if that makes sense….

a vicious process, because we try to make sense of the things we love and passionately live for, but ultimately sometimes that cannot be figured out.

Amen to that.

I think as a quote this could be a bit less formal and have more impact. Passion is irrational because it is passion its very essence is lack of control. A little rewording would do well to take this further, but as it is it feels to forced.

I LOVE THIS.

It’s the truth.

The idea is great; however, I am not completely crazy about the center of the quote ’,because simply,’ I almost feel like it should read ’,because, quite simply,’. I like the idea of the three commas – it seems less rational ;) and I feel like it adds to the rhythm of the quote.

Passion is not comprised of rational structure, therefore senseless.
You can eliminate the extra words.  Ina quote, the suject of the matter suffices which had be said with much less effort.  Magnificent theory!

Very true statement. I don’t think “sometimes” is needed in this content however. And it might be stronger with impact if you changed “passion is not…” to “it is not comprised”. and maybe the because is extranious too. I could be wrong, but I like this quote as is. So do what you will, going on my favorites, sorry if that didn’t make much sense.

“Sometimes” made sense in my head, but your right, it is no explanatory in the quote. I assume passion can be rationalized by making sense of it in different scenarios, but when it comes to decision-making situations logic versus pathos, pathos is not the one with rational structure. Passion is the cliche following your heart and not mind.

And with the recommendation of replacing “it” with the repeated word of “passion”, makes sense because to some people doubling the word can sound redundant, but I typically steer away from using “it” for describing the subject because “it” can become vague when used. But that is typically for poetry, this quote is short enough to where the reader should know what “it” is.

Now that I look at the quote again, I would probably remove “sometimes” just to make it more clear. But I originally put sometimes because I can make sense of my passion because I know what it is and what I want to do with my passion. However, sometimes when it comes a situation where you have to pick the rational choice or a decision from passion, we cannot reason our way out choosing something with passion because passion is not associated with rationality. Kind of like “I should do this but…” when we are impulsed by passion in decision-making, logic cannot produce rational formulas for why we didn’t go with the safe thing you should of done – that’s the power of passion.

Does this help? or more confusing?

Sometimes? Or all the time? If passion is not comprised of rational structure, and what emotion is, then it would seem one could never make sense out of passion if your logic is correct. Otherwise some passion would be comprised of a rational structure is what you’re implying. What sparks a passion is a great mystery, and is complex to each individual that has one, or more. Interesting non-the-less.
