The ‘no sound’ ‘no bark’ references were inspired by a suggestion [without citation] that the branches rubbing together in the breeze sound like a dog barking, and may have been how the tree got its name.

All I know is they flowered, and now sadly the petals are on the ground beneath almost all of them.  

I’m sorry to read that you felt my poem was lacking.  The subject, or the ‘point’ as you put it, is all about the flowering dogwood tree and my search for it.  I thought that was quite clear from line 2.

As they flower in early spring, they indicate that Winter has passed, and Summer is on its way.  I thought that was quite clear in line 6.

The title of the poem should tell you that I was writing about the anticipation of seeing the tree in flower.  I’d waited since last Spring to see it again.  I expressed that in line 9.

Perhaps you don’t read or write much poetry?  I suspect that to be the case by your reference to the word ‘prose’.  This is a poem structured into 3, 4-line stanzas with an AABB rhyme scheme.  Hardly randomly placed ‘pretty words’.

Prose, or prose poems are unstructured in the manner of speech.

Still, I appreciate the compliment that I ‘write beautifully’, whatever that might mean.
