The Unfolding

This is the beginning of 2009. A year which jumps from chaos to catastrophe.
The end of 2008 saw this world consuming it’s self in a world wide economic melt down which was the tailings of year in absolute political anarchy finding the Palestine and Israel world headed for another Mid Eastern Crises. On every level around the world there was unrest. Political, economic and civil strife poured over the news and into each life. It would be difficult for anyone who is even a slightly aware of their surroundings to deny they do not know what I am saying is a truth.

In the latter part of December of 08 new events began to appear which are often overlooked by most. Earthquakes began in great numbers across the globe. From Afghanistan to Yellowstone National Park here in the USA tremors in perhaps the worlds largest caldera began to appear in the hundreds. Most small and not unusual in their strength. Some in he range of 3.6 on the Richter scale of events. The numbers are the disturbing part as over 400 have been recorded in the Yellowstone region through January 5 of 2009 from late December of 08. No one seems to know the significance of these tremors but are concerned with the increased numbers.

Add to this the chaos of wars and political unrest which are increasing throughout the world, the already stressed economy, and the starvation caused by drought and Dictatorial Genocide in many African countries. A never ending fight for Democratic Freedom in countries who never ask for assistance, it all adds up to trillions of dollars spent by this country sinking our citizens into a recession bordering on a depression. Like the environment, our society is in a disquieting state of disrepair.
While Americans wale and whine in confused disbelief, all around them great minds are stunned and immobile trying to decide how to keep a status quo, which no longer is static, efficient. In this modern world of picket fences and two Cadillac garages and credit card driven false security society dissolves into sweat soaked fear. Looking for blame in all the corners of the financial markets and in unholy schemes one must first look at the roll model offered to the society in the form of how our government is responsible. Its own practices of indebtedness and casual manipulation of how the public money has been handled is a fine example of what we should not be doing up to this point.

Around the world not just in the USA, countries are scrambling to right a sinking economy. Recently China, the fastest growing country in the world has slowed its investing in anything American. China recently invested over a trillion dollars into its own economy to bolster and improve it’s own peoples progress during this last six months. Trillions in dollars are beyond my imagination. It makes a Billion sound reasonable, a Million sound like a yearly salary for the middle class, and the poor making 100,000 dollars a year necessary. One Trillion of anything is 1000 billion of something.
A new reality is unfolding, it brings with it a crises of unparalleled proportion never experienced by my generation and few before me. We can prepare for certain negative experiences to follow behind this new downturn. It does not mean one cannot be optimistic but it also does not mean casual disregard of our present predicament. Individual focus will turn to survival in a time of chaos and job loss. Crime will rise and the disadvantaged will become more so while those who are comfortable will become uncomfortable. Keeping what you have becoming more important than getting more while what is important to you takes on a new and different meaning.

Perhaps we may see those whom we have respected in the past become shadows of intrigue as the answers are filtered down. The conspiracy theorists will unleash a multitude of accusations and feed them to baffled and confused population greedy and hungry for someone or something to blame. The End Time bell ringers and the 2012 adherents will point and say they told us so while optimists will just sigh and plead with the seeming rational to just have faith in our leaders, as over time it will all be alright. Well it may be so, being alright is to survive, to expect to survive by not understanding why we are in this position is a disaster. And to understand is to be able to reverse our situation and accept it will not better it’s self without courage to extend our individual minds and connect to fixing the problem where it can be fixed.
Today January 8, 2009 President Elect Obama put forth a dire message about all of this and presented an outline of repairing what is broken. His speech I found reassuring and rational. It covered basic needed steps to a recovery. It is up to the rest of the government and people of the USA to grasp the depth of the dilemma and initiate the needed sacrifices required to solve our economic problems.

If for a moment we can allow the fact that evolution indeed takes place. That science and technology have the right to validate evolution we may be able to accept, understand and adapt to this changing of our ideology and understand the present world we live in. We must accept a social evolution such as the Industrial Revolution for what it was. We can look at the last 2000 years and say by definition evolution in the strict sense has not taken place in an overt way. Not like the one described by Darwin at least. But all the same an evolving of man and his society has indeed taken place and if we are not willing to move into it’s evolution then we can expect little understanding of how or why we are in this position today. I will not pretend to say I am qualified or even sane enough to encourage you to think this way. It just appears to me to be a common sense approach to a very ugly problem facing us today.
It is easy for me to rationalize and accept what has befallen us in these years of chaotic events by believing that for progress to continue, the stripping away of things which have not worked, or have stopped working, die a natural death. I can be hopeful in this case that after the stripping, the old adage “the more things change, the more they stay the same” will die a sudden and glorious death. The sadness comes when we attribute man’s death to the same set of criteria. It is possible to attribute extinction in the past to natural catastrophic disaster in Nature. It is also possible to attribute natures extinction to mans lack of caring about his surroundings. Point in case is the Carrier Pigeon which were prolific to the tune of billions at one time and were destroyed by man through hunting for sport to the point they no longer fly and darken the sky as once they did long ago.

Today is ugly and painful. It approaches barbaric proportions yet may be seen as growing pains to building a new and more productive and peaceful time ahead. If the sadness of 9-11 was a knee jerk reaction by a government unprepared then today may be another sort awakening call for this society and not allow the same thing to take place as economic death knell for a once proud and prosperous world. I believe then and now are intertwined and is what prompted where we are today.
How we cope through these next few decades will determine how well we are able to survive in the distant future. All the rhetoric about the end of time and the 2012 arrival of culminating events may have been to make us more aware of a purely natural progression of change. I points to me the idea that major changes are inevitable in each and every aspect of growing. I will refuse to believe any spiritual abomination can or will be set man that man does not trigger through his own ignorance and lack of attention. The validity of what I say, think, or feel will have little impact on anyone who cannot grasp the consequence of what is happening today. If man and society will not participate in their own change by committing to a more austere direction through better education understanding them and self about how they perceive the world of a future then natural events such as we are faced with will continue to shock and bewilder our children.

We will never be able to anticipate all events in the future but we can learn from what we know of the past.
