Poetry / An Imperfect Shining Soul
"An Imperfect Shining Soul”
(I Am a Scholar of You, II)
You’re the bullet
I have to take
You, with machine gun eyes
Violent vibrancy, covert smiles
Conspire to take me down
Each touch, annihilation--
I didn’t ask for this
Mystic madness slays me,
Bless your barbed-wired heart
Rare and brutal beauty
Has knocked me down again
Arms of perfect anarchy
Refuse to raise me up
My poisoned mind is rampant
With scenes I won’t forget
How evil, when you know
You have the antidote for it
Unrelenting conqueror
Of my steadfast self-control
I’ve memorized each moment
Of your whispering campaign
Inadvertent victor
In the battle of our wills
Your presence is a prison
And I’ve thrown away the key
