A friend is something many have
But is also greatly taken for granted.
In truth, when you don’t have any
First impressions can be quite slanted.

Let’s look at some positives
And also negatives in stride.
There are many you’re proud of,
And also some you prefer to hide.

Some through good times and bad,
Will never dare leave side.
But at the same time,
There are others that’ll just run away and hide.

Now friends are complicated.
You really have to accept the good and bad.
Some make you happy when your upset.
Others can make happy moments truly sad.

Still without a friend in your life,
The world can be quite menacing.
If you’re in danger or even just lonely,
A life without them you’ll be lamenting.

Everyone likes to act strong,
We tell ourselves we’re “self sufficient”.
But how many of us cry at night
Longing for a true friend and feeling distant?

When you’re all alone in life,
It can drive even the sane to wish its end.
You can either accept it and/or end it
Or get up, get out, and make a friend.
