Journalism / Truth in Politics (Analysis)
Many people wonder if there is any truth left in politics. Questions are being spawned by campain lies and our economic condition, where is the truth?
You won't find truth coming from elected officials because most feel as Jack Nicholson did when confronted by Tom Cruise in the movie A Few Good Men; "You can't handle the truth!". I wonder if the McCain ticket will ever use that with Katie Couric?
What can the people believe? Who can the people believe? Where can truth be found? You may be surprised to learn the truth of government lies with the people, not the politicians. The truth is, and the government would lose control if the people collectively exercised this truth, the power is in the people.
Deception is being played by our government casually leading the public to think they have power creating complacency. This deception takes control from the people and keeps it in government hands. The overwhelming conditions the United States are facing today exist because of complacency among the people.
The government and media co-mingle conforming the thought of the multitude to believe liberty is the key to achieve the "American Dream". Now we are finding the locks have been changed and our key no longer works. We haven't lost our liberty, we've forgotten how to exercise it.
Americans need to realize they hold the truth, (or power), to this countries success or demise and will ultimately be accountable for the conditions they have to endure until action is taken, liberty to make change is exercised, and government is forced to submit to the vote and voice of the people. That is the truth in politics.

I come away from this piece with a hazier definition of truth than when I started. The way you try to employ the term “truth” is compelling at first, but then becomes vague and exasperating.
Maybe instead of “truth” you are talking about “freedom,” which could be defined as liberty or comfort depending on a person’s outlook. At the moment, I think most people view “truth” in politics as something that can be confirmed through factcheck.com.
