What wrong section would that be?

Is this a quote?

It is a submission for Smith Magazine’s contest (6-word memoir). And since I am the one who stated this truth about my life, it could be considered a quote ;p an autobigraphical quote, but a quote nonetheless.

I thought of that as well, and was torn for a while about which way to present the first two words. If the 2nd part of the sentence, the equality to the other side of the colon, was constructed with any other words, I would definitely agree with you. But say that out loud to yourself—Eternally single: my only friendly enemy. It’s a little akward, because Eternally single is more of a description than a state of being, whereas the equality words on the other side of the colon give a sense that they are juxtaposed with a subject (a state of being) rather than a description. Not sure if I explained that well. If I didn’t get my point across let me know and I’ll try again ;p

Interesting perspective. I’m a dog person, personally, but each is perfectly entitled to their pet of choice.

It’s always better to wait and find one that you can spend the rest of your life with, instead of rushing from relationship to relationship.

They did, that’s the subject of the contest.  

“Now Urbis and SMITH want you to describe your life as a writer, artist, or raconteur in six well-chosen words.”

Who says the artistry has to be writing I am a writer but when I answered the 6 word ‘describe the creative life’ myself I took in my life as an ARTIST which contains my entire life & many fields of artistry LIFE itself is an art.

Artist, writer….whichever.  This piece is about the author’s single life, which isn’t the subject of the opportunity, in my opinion.  According to your criteria, I could write a memoir about fixing old cars, but that’s hardly the life of a writer or artist, is it?  On the other hand, if this opportunity were provided by Automobile magazine…

Actually, writing a memoir about fixing old cars IS writing, which IS an art. Doesn’t matter what the subject is. You’re writing a memoir. You’re fitting a story into 6 words. I think THAT is what they mean by “life as a writer” or “life as an artist” or whatever. Besides, to end your argument completely without a doubt, what if my “eternal singledom” is DUE to the fact that I AM a writer? A lot of writers become hermits…

Dexus, hang on, you said ‘well said’ to my review, and now you’re disagreeing with me….huh?  

I didn’t say writing about fixing cars wasn’t writing.  I said it wasn’t about the life of a writer.  It would be about the life of a car mechanic who writes about being a car mechanic.  Not quite the same thing as a writer that writes about their success/struggles/experiences as a writer.

And as for being single due to being a writer, I did actually suggest that in my review.  So go ahead and tell me, is that why you’re single?  It doesn’t validate the argument otherwise.  But then this is just my opinion, and in my opinion, any piece about the life of a writer, that doesn’t relate to writing, could just as well be about anyone.

Ok now this is getting cluttered.

You assume “the life of a writer” has to be about writing? “The life of a writer” is simply that, about the life of someone who claims writing as a hobbie. Their “life” (memoir) is everything that happens in their life, and exercising their passion and skills for “writing” by writing about it (any of it) is indeed about the life of a writer. It doesn’t say to write a 6-word memoir about “the writing-life of a writer.”

I’d forgotten you already mentioned that perhaps it was because I was single, and I didn’t mean to sound like I was disagreeing with you by pointing that out (again, apparently). Now that I went back and read your review and my first comment, I did say “well said” to part of your review. It was the part about being single BECAUSE of writing… So the disagreement part was only about the mechanic thing…
