This is probably because you don’t understand sentence structure very well. I’ll explain it to you.
The sentence is “The mad god consumes.” It is very simple. ”Resplendent agony” is simply an additional descriptive clause that relates to it; basically, it’s like saying the act of the mad god consuming IS resplendent agony. Except with a comma.
Read more advanced books and you’ll pick up on things like this. And maybe learn a bit of spelling.
