Poetry / Designer Love (Analysis)
Like a shiny car in the driveway that doesn’t run.
A beautiful person who on the inside is eaten up with disease
Or a twinkle in the eye that on closer look is only tinsel.
That is what we were like…no… that is what you are like.
Nothing but designer love.
You spoke,
Pretty words on a forked tongue
Offered,
Flower growing in a landfill
You whispered to me once in the dark,
“There is more to me to love than glitz and glamour”
In the end though, there was not even that to love.
Oh yes, I admit I let you shine in my eye, Convinced myself,
Let myself believe that your pretty words and fragrant flowers were real
But,
Blinking away the sparkle,
Reality,
Perfumed paper flowers
Words you memorized, spoke I know not hoe many times
Rhetoric
Designer love
“I am more than just a shiny thing” you said
But I say that is all you are
But as I see, as I know
Many things that shine are valueless
Foil in a garbage heap
Fool’s gold in the miner pan
Things that trick
Things that lie
Designer love
You…

You had me until I got to “Words you memorized, spoke I know not hoe many times..
Rhetoric…Designer love” could be the 5 cups of coffee I had this morning but I just got a little lost here. Overall good read.

This is really good, emotions throughout the poem are presented very well and the imagery and wording is great the only thing I didn’t like was the ending for some reason I was expecting this big finale to top off the poem but obviously didn’t work, I don’t know maybe I was just expecting alittle too much from it but the overall piece was great!!!!
Keep up the great work,
Amy
