Young Adult / Epic Love Story (Analysis)

Their romance was the thing that fairy tales were made of. A chance meeting, drama and confusion, full of plot twists and heartaches, but it would end with a lasting love. It starts like any other love story, but ends a little differently than most. It ends after a long lasting struggle to make their dreams of forever come true.

Sara was only 16 when she met Bobby. Their first meeting was by pure chance, and it would be a day to remember for both of them. Sara and her friend Abby were bored on a hot, summer day and decided to go to their local pool for a swim. They were enjoying themselves until two annoying boys decided to try and flirt with them.

These two boys were much younger than Sara and Abby, but one of these boys would change Sara’s life forever. As the two girls sat by the pool side, checking out the local boys swimming and gossiping about the cute ones, the two annoying boys would take turns jumping over their heads, purposely trying to get them wet.

While these boys were tormenting Sara and Abby, a young man was sitting in the grass watching. His name was Bobby, and he was the older brother of one of the young boys. From where he was sitting he could see everything, but all he wanted to see was Sara. He found he to be a pretty young lady, and he was dying inside to talk to her.

Sara and Abby had both had enough with there boys and decided to jump in the water, then get out and lay in the grass to tan. Bobby watched Sara like a hawk, waiting for a chance to speak with her. Sara unfortunately had been lost in her own little world, proud of herself for attracting some male attention, but upset that it was coming from some immature little kids. The two girls grabbed their towels and laid out on the hill in an attempt to gain some sunlight.

“Can you believe those guys?” Abby asked Sara. Sara could only reply with, “Tell me about it. Can you say…” when Abby’s glance had drifted away from her. When Abby looked away Sara became intrigued enough to turn and look also. That’s when she saw Bobby smiling at her, and she felt her heart burst out of her chest.

Bobby was incredibly handsome, dark hair, brown eyes, and a smile that could melt a heart. He had the most important things Sara looked for in a man, eyes, smile, and a great body. “I’m sorry about those jerks that were bothering you girls” Bobby said, talking to both girls, but only looking at Sara. When their eyes locked, Sara swore she could feel immediate fireworks.

Sara was swept up in the moment and could only smile, so Abby piped in with “It is ok, we just came over here to get away with them.” Bobby was hoping to hear Sara say something, but when she didn’t he turned to walk away. “You could stay and talk to us, if you want” Sara finally muttered. Bobby turned around and smiled, and immediately sat down besides Sara.

Sara started ask Bobby questions, half flirting but mostly wanting to keep him around as long as she could. “Where are you from?” she asked, to a response of “Brownsville, yourself?” She had just recently moved to Connellsville, so she told him that. “Why are you all the way down here if you live in Connellsville?” Bobby asked her. Abby chimed in, saying “She is spending the night with me and I live really close. But why are you here, Brownsville isn’t exactly close to here?”

Bobby was a little taken back by the question, obviously not expecting to have his question turned around on him, so he said “Me and my brother and some friends come here because it is a public pool, and we can meet new people.” Then he just looked into Sara’s pretty brown eyes and smiled at her. Sara couldn’t help but to blush and smile back. She had never felt like this before, she was actually nervous about flirting with this boy, and she was a natural flirt even when she wasn’t trying.

The three talked for a few minutes, even though it was mostly Sara and Bobby talking. Sara and Abby wanted to get back in the pool, but Bobby’s brother was still lurking around. That’s when Bobby had a great idea, “How about the three of us get into the kiddie pool, you girls can get wet and when he sees us together he might leave you alone.” Sara relished the idea of getting in the water with Bobby, and got up to follow him. Abby stood up also and the walked into the kiddie pool. They sat down and laid back, and Bobby finally got up the courage to say “Sara, I would really like to talk to you again, I have to go to football practice soon and then I have to go to work, but can I get your number and call you later?” Sara was so excited he asked, because she was hoping he liked her as much as she was liking him, so she said yes and followed him to where his belongings were.

Bobby said “I will call you later, and I got to go.” but gave Sara his number before he left. Sara and Abby was so shocked by what happened that they got some ice cream and sat under the pavilion to talk. “Can you believe how cool that was”, Sara said, “He saw up being tormented and not only apologize for his brother, but helped us get rid of him.” Abby replied. “Yea, but do you really want to talk to him again, he’s not really your type is he?” Sara thought about the question, and said “Yes, I think he might be.”

After the girls got bored at the pool they decided to go back to Abby’s house to relax, and see if the had gotten sunburned. They ate some food and were getting ready to watch a movie, when Sara’s phone rang. “It’s Bobby!” she screamed, to a response of “Are you going to answer it?” Before Abby could finish her sentence, though, Sara had answered it and said “Hello?” “Sara? Is that you?” she heard. “Yes”, she said, “Is this Bobby?” “Yea, it’s me. What’s up?” he said. “Not much, you?” “Not much, I am at work.” “Where do you work?” “Brownsville Drive-In. It sucks but it is money.” “You work at a drive-in”, Sara said, “That is so cool. I love going to the drive-in.” “You should come here and see me. Now that would be cool.” Sara thought about it long and hard, but it was such a long drive.

“I can’t” she said. Bobby was disappointed but he understood. They talked for a good half an hour, but Bobby had to get back to work. When he got off work he called her again, only when Sara answered she went up to Abby’s attic for some privacy. That’s where they talked about things they liked and things they didn’t, future plans, hobbies, and everything else. They liked the same kind of music, movies, and were both in school activities, although his was football and hers was dance.

Bobby and Sara continued to grow closer over the summer, talking on the phone. They found out that they were both overly sexual people, and enjoyed that common interest. The two always had something to talk about, but being together was so difficult. Bobby wasn’t allowed to drive to see Sara, and she couldn’t drive in the first place.

When school began they talked a little less, and then in October Bobby had some devastating news, he was moving out of state. His brother had left Brownsville to go live with his mom in Texas, and now Bobby had to because he didn’t have a choice. Sara couldn’t believe this, but they agreed to still talk and stay close. Sara wanted to make Bobby her boyfriend so bad, but she lived in Pennsylvania and he would be living in Texas. They would never be able to see each other again, and that broke her heart.

After Bobby moved, it seemed that the two got closer than ever. Sara had found a boyfriend where she was, but Bobby stayed single. None of Sara’s relationships were working out, so Bobby said, “Why don’t we try to make this work, long-distance.” Sara was torn, she cared for Bobby a lot, maybe even enough to one day love him, but long distance relationships meant she would really be all alone and she hated that feeling.

Sara agreed, and decided she wanted to be the type of girlfriend Bobby would be proud to say was his. She told him “If you want to sleep with other girl that’s fine, at least until we can be together.” but really she only wanted the freedom to do the same if he did. They got along great, talking everyday, mostly about sex and other things of that nature.

After a few months though, Sara was so lonely that she turned to an old friend. The friend ended up falling in love with her, right when things with Bobby were getting rough. Sara broke up with Bobby, saying “This long distance thing is to hard, I want someone to hold and kiss and touch.” but really she wanted to see if he cared enough to get her back.

Bobby was devastated by this, so much that he jumped in his truck and just starting driving. He ended up driving to California, and then turning around. Bobby never realized Sara’s true motives, and never tried to win her back until it was almost too late.

Sara ended up dating her friend, Brady, for almost two years, and they even got engaged. But she could never stop thinking about Bobby. She never truly loved Brady, and knew marriage would be a huge mistake, so she called it off.

Sara knew that Bobby had other girlfriends after their break-up, but after checking his my space she saw that he was currently single. She kept thinking about him, so she decided to message him and see how he was. She kept it simple, “Sorry about everything, wanted to see how you were. Wanted to know if you would like to talk and catch up, call me if you do.”

Needless to say, when Bobby saw the message from Sara he was so happy to hear from her. He immediately called her, and it felt like she had never left his life. Sara said “I have been thinking about you a lot, and miss you.” Bobby replied, “I feel the same exact way” and that was all it took.
Sara and Bobby knew they wanted to be together, and this time they were determined to find a way to make it happen. Bobby told Sara that he might get a football scholarship to a school in Pennsylvania, near where Sara lived. She was so excited she decided to apply to the same school, and surprise Bobby. But that is when the next test of the love would come.

Three days after Sara decided to apply to the college, Bobby called her to tell her the news, “Sara, I enlisted in the Army. I leave in two weeks for basic training.” Sara couldn’t speak, she knew things would never work out, he would be leaving to go overseas to fight in Iraq, and she would never see him. Bobby tried to assure her that wouldn’t happen, but she knew better.

Bobby tried to get Sara to be his girlfriend, but after hearing his new news, she couldn’t say yes. After a few days though she knew in heart they might be able to work through this. Bobby asked her once last time, “I know your not happy about me leaving for the Army, you have made that clear, but I want you to be mine, you love me and I love you. We should be together.” Sara thought about it and finally said yes.

The day Bobby was supposed to leave for basic he called her, telling her “I Love You, don’t forget it.” She was surprised he had called, especially since he spent all week ignoring her to go out to bars. She mumbled an “I love you 2” and was prepared to put down the phone and start crying. “I will write to you as soon I as I can, promise.” he said, then they said their goodbyes and hung up.

Sara knew things would be hard for her, but she never realized just how hard. For ten weeks she couldn’t communicate with Bobby, because he never wrote her a letter giving her the address. She felt she alone, and stupid for agreeing to be his girlfriend under the circumstances, but she vowed not to let it get her down.

Finally the day came that she could talk to him, and he dropped another bomb, “Babe, I might be going to Iraq for 5 or 6 months.” Sara knew that if he went to Iraq he could be injured or killed, and she was so scared she just cried. Sara slipped into a depression for a few days, and refused to speak with her friends and family for a few days.

Sara finally called Bobby back, telling him she was proud of him, even though she was hurting so much on the inside. They continued talking for a few weeks, until Bobby got his assignment orders. Bobby knew that him leaving would break Sara’s heart, so he thought breaking up would be the best.

Bobby also had a girl in his hometown that he was interested in, maybe not in love with, but she was beautiful. He kept the girl hidden from Sara because it would hurt her too much. Bobby was torn between pure love and pure lust, but being a teen boy, he chose lust.

Sara pieced together the break up, especially after recapping the conversation in her head. She had been out of town all week, and called him when she got home. Right off the bat she knew something was wrong, especially when she heard, “Babe, we need to talk about something.” from him. “Sara, I have to go to Iraq for sixteen months, and I won’t be able to come see you before then.” he continued.

Sara could feel her heart hit her stomach, and tears were rolling down her face. She managed to mutter, “Well I knew this could happen, I just hoped that it wouldn’t.” Bobby didn’t seem to make things any easier adding, “Well, sixteen months is a long time, and I don’t want you to have to wait that long.”

my space-myspace, unless you did it that way to avoid copyright laws

I liked it because it was simple. The love story was simple and so where there names. That’s not an insult, because it was perfect for this story. I’m going to read part 2 right now. What I liked about this chapter is that you took us back to the start of their relationship, instead of telling us about it in an paragraph. I didn’t spot any errors either.
