Poetry / Dance of Fears

Terrible troubles befell him,
Like a cascading tide to the swell.
And beneath his whole life there were craters,
Beneath his whole world there was hell.

He whirled in a sweet desperation,
He plunged to an unending doom.
Before him was ne’er a salvation,
Behind, unremitting gloom.

He scratched and he clawed for an answer,
He pushed and he pulled ‘til no end.
To find the peace of a stranger,
To see the true heart from within.

But a blanket lay cross his vision,
And a pummel coated his ears.
He was caught in a jig of damnation,
He was trapped in a dance with his fears.

So he twirled to the tune of his madness,
Through the days and the nights of his dream.
Long passed the woes and the sadness,
Long into the devil’s eye gleam.

To this day, he wanders from safety,
Awash in the sweat of his tears.
Afraid of the clean light before him,
Aghast at his own dance of fears.

Hi there,

I loved this piece, rather dark and bleak. My fav “So he twirled to the tune of his madness”. This is so creative, generating great visuals, as does the entire piece, but these words really stick to my soul. If we knew each other in 1986, as I see that is when it was written, I would have thought I may have inspired some of this. I unfortunatly see much of my soul captured here, quite eerie indeed… great work! me…
