Poetry / He Weeps

Jesus is dead and living in Hell,
So kick his guts and let him smell.
Let him rot and let him burn,
And let his parts to the earth return.

For none do hold Him anymore,
None can see His path before,
None can see His light shine through,
None believe his words were true.

They follow their own, do as they please,
Turn a cold eye ‘til good hearts freeze,
Curdle and dwindle to a bitter hull,
A cold sad shadow of a once glorious whole.

Oh, yes, Jesus IS dead and living in Hell,
His guts kicked daily until they smell.
For now He sees what His Word’s become,
And weeps for the fading light of man.

this is a challenging review:  i’m unsure whether you mean that Jesus is really rotting in hell because of His peoples’ hypocrisy, or whether the image symbolizes our lack of any acknowledgement of His Word.  maybe you want the image of Jesus rotting in hell to be vague to bring this question to the reader.  the repetition of the premise (1st and last verses) seem to work well.  it’s definately powerful and plain/straight forward.  the rhyming and rhythm are… outstanding.
to overstep the boundary here, have you heard of Philip Yancey’s book: Disappointment With God?  don’t know if you’re experiencing that.  I should read it again.  seems like one everyone should read.
thanks for posing the question/putting the ideas out there, if that was your intent.  if not, i will continue t think about this one.

This piece flows really well, and the rhymes are excellent. It is, as the author states in the reviewer notes, very offensive. But I feel it is a comment more about man’s rejection of the Christ, and not necessarily blasphemy. It is a true expression of what a fourteen-year-old girl felt and needed to write. It’s not something I’d care to read again, and I think it would raise a cry of protest if printed in a publication.
