“Otherwise you’re giving away a plot element.” This is true. On the other hand, are there still people who haven’t seen this movie already?

Criticism / Princess Bride Movie Review
Rob Reiner has done it again – another beautifully made film from the Hollywood mastermind. Not surprisingly, The Princess Bride is a tale spun with plenty of irony, twists, and humor. Best of all, the mistakes and bad acting, whether on purpose or not, makes this a comedic classic.
Buttercup (Robin Penn) is devastated when she believes pirates killed her true love, Westley (Cary Elwes). She is then forced to marry the evil Prince Humperdink (Christoher Sarandon) who plans to have her kidnapped and murdered. Before she knows it, she is taken away by Inigo (Mandy Patinkin), Fezzik the Giant (Andre the Giant), and the extremely entertaining Vizzini (played by Wallace Shawn). But the desperate and slightly dim kidnappers are chased by Westly, Buttercup’s one and only true love.
While most films will fall neatly in the genres of comedy, adventure, or fantasy, The Princess Bride is a delightful mixture of all three. The intense fencing match between Inigo and Westley keeps you on the edge of your seat, while the crazy antics of Vizzini will keep you laughing throughout the whole movie, and don’t forget about the clichéd love-based plot typical of fairy tales.
There is no film review that is adequate enough to describe the experience of watching the Princess Bride. You can only see it for yourself, and be amazed at the pure ingenious of Rob Reiner at his best.

In the summary of the story, you may want to mention why the prince plans to have Buttercup kidnapped, since that is quite important as a plot complication.
You spell “Westley” two different way; I’m sure the dropped ‘e’ in the second instance is a typo.
Titles of movies are italicized. (Do this on Urbis by placing an underscore to each side: The Princess Bride.)
“pure ingenious” should be “genious”
This is very well-written as far as grammar, punctuation, etc. My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that you don’t go into enough detail. Depending on the purpose of this piece, more detail may not be an option, though. You may want to mention that this movie is something of a cult classic now.

I think you have a good criticism here although I think it could be a bit longer. Like talk more about the cliches of the story more and how they work well. Granted you might have to reveal things that you don’t want to reveal in a review.
But it’s current length is good too.
A few notes, though.
First, I don’t know if you want to reveal that it’s Wesley that is chasing them in your review. Half the movie we’re led to believe it’s the Dread Pirate Roberts chasing them. This is the man who we’re led to believe killed her love. So maybe you don’t reveal that. It could go either way, especially since so many people have seen this movie.
Secondly:
“There is no film review that is adequate enough to describe the experience of watching the Princess Bride.”
I don’t think you’re giving yourself enough credit here. Nor does any reviewer when they throw out lines like that. There are other ways you can tell us that this movie is great.
But you have a good start here to build on. Good luck!
I like this movie, too, and thought that you conveyed your feelings about the movie well.
I was confused by the first line – it made it seem like this movie just came out. You have some extraneous phrases you could cut out, such as “not surprisingly.” I don’t really like the second paragraph, where you attempt to summarize the plot, because it is hard to follow.
Good start.
”...the mistakes and bad acting… make this a comedic classic.” I’ve corrected the conjugation of the verb “to make” for you.
Instead of saying that the kidnappers are chased by Wesley, you should say that they’re chased by “The Dread Pirate Roberts, a mysterious and dangerous figure” or something like that. Otherwise you’re giving away a plot element.
This reads more like a blurb on the back of a DVD case than an actual critical review.
I think this was a very straight to the point review of the movie. Plus, since it’s one of my favorites, I might be a little biased.
Anyway, you didn’t overwhelm the reader with a bunch of movie lingo that average Joes wouldn’t understand. It’s concise. It says who’s in it and what it’s about. Too many times critics try to show how smart they are and load down a review with a bunch of double talk and comparitive analysis to other movies that no one has seen. This wasn’t the case.
Very well done and an excellent review of one of my favorite films!
i love this movie!!! its just so funny and so awesome!! the bad acting is meant to be funny. and this is a great review, i do all the movie reviews and am the editor for it for my school newspaper.
