Poetry / Wander Not the Weary Miles
To whom will you turn for love
If your heart forsakes this shore?
The winged flight of your captive dove
Sits clipped behind your imprisoned door.
You professed your adulation;
Your spirit belonging to One.
Yet what of unspoken temptations,
Urging your feet toward a brighter sun?
Will your devotion give way to fear,
And turn from your elected path?
Leaving behind more haunted tears
To veil an ardent lass?
The waves of love ebb and flow
Like your beloved ocean’s tide.
Will ethereal dreams bid you go,
And dismiss that with which you abide?
Oh, wander not the weary miles
That may beckon your soul to stray.
Tarry, instead, for the coming days,
And let me bathe here in your smile.

An emotive piece that flows well. There is a real sense of need in this poem as well as love.
