Short Story / When love hurts
“Why do I love you?” sI asked with tears in my eyes.
“I don’t know why you love me or why you continue to take me back, but I love you too. Ya know, you aren’t the only one here with problems. I lost my fiancee and my twin boys because of some lies! I love you and I’m not trying to lose you too! I would never hurt you. I know what you have been through in your past. I have to stop thinking that every man you love is out to hurt you.”
“You just don’t understand..”
“Then tell me. Make me understand.”
“I can’t do this anymore.”
“Can’t or won’t.”
“I can’t and I won’t do this anymore. All you ever do is hurt me. You come around just long enough to make me think you love me and then you leave me for a month or more without one phone call! You hurt me just like every other man from my past! I thought you were different. I guess I was wrong. I guess I don’t really know you at all.”
“Don’t know me at all, huh?”
“That’s right!”
“Well if you don’t know me, what the hell am I doing here? Huh? why am I even here?” he asked as he grabbed his keys.
“You know what, go ahead and leave like you always do! Only this time I won’t be here when you return!” I said as I walked back into my room and slamed my door. I listened for him out my bedroom door. I heard him walking towards the door and then leave out the front door. He was probably going over to one of his women house for the night. I looked out the window to see him walking towards his truck. He looked up towards my window before getting inside his truck and quickly driving away. Why did I love him so much? I needed to forget about him and move on with my life. If he loved me why did he do the things he did? Better yet, why did I continue to allow him in my life to hurt me as he did? I knew he was a man with a past of being with many women, but I thought what we had was different. Boy was I wrong. Why does love hurt so much? I could have just told him no tonight. I should not have let him in. WHy does love have to hurt so much…
“I don’t need this.” he said as he walked from the door and slammed it.
