Out my window I see: Snow falling on the ground; Men and women slowly parting; Leaves turning from green to read and then turning to dust. Out my window I see: Homes being built and babies being born; Families coming together and being torn apart; A kiss, a hug, a shreik, a cry, a squeel, a laugh. Out my window I see: EVERYTHING.

It's cracked. Around the edges are tiny little chips, which run through the core of the ceramic. There are large cracks. Brittle, old, tired, it should have shattered long ago. But looks can be deceiving. Whisked from the horrors of genocide, the ashes of a nation, it is now a composition of millions of shards. Held together only by the will to exist. It is cracked. It is a plate.

My pen name is Jaben so I was attracted to this story. I haven't read the first two chapters but that really shouldn't matter. Pick up a good book and you'll be drawn in almost anywhere you open it. This chapter unfortunately, didn't grab my attention. There wasn't any tension. For example, the banter about the garden and the size of the produce didn't seem significant or add to the story. In a novel, each chapter must have its own arc if it is to keep the reader interested. I'd recommend you...
