I am currently working as the assistant manager at a small venue which has nightly music.  In addition, I am an experienced musician (20 years or so), specifically a composer, both of classical and “popular” genres.
as a result, most of the work i will be posting here will inevitably be lyrics, and more along the “popular” variety, as most classical music does not contain lyrics (and none of mine does— as of this date).
I wanted to be a writer when I was very young, and have always been attracted to the science-fiction genre, although I find a lot of the work in that field to be disappointing.  If I do submit any non-lyrical works, chances are they will fall under the heading of “sci-fi” in some way or another.

Specific works which I feel have contributed positively to the genre of “sci-fi” would include almost anything by Kurt Vonnegut, Margaret Atwood’s “Oryx & Crake”, Iain M. Bain’s “Use of Weapons” (or other novels), and (maybe, but this is pushing it), some of the works of Haruki Murakami.  The works of these authors, I feel, represent what “sci-fi” could be, as opposed to pigeonholing itself into dark corners like “hard sci-fi,” “space opera,” and “military fiction”— ugh.
As far as music — my favorite composers include, in no particular order, Mussorgsky, Beethoven, Shostakovich, Stravinski, Gubaidulina, and others.
My favorite “popular” acts include Sebadoh, The Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Stooges, and more in that vein, along with blues such as Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, and suchlike.
