Though I suppose it's not absolutely necessary, I feel that a context for the "sorrow" may give me more direction with this piece. I feel like I'm being denied access to the poem's true emotional core...maybe. The lines "what was horrid. I crawl swallowing/burnt umber and clay" are tantalizing and even beautiful, but the phrase "what was horrid" leaves a little too much mystery. The poem would benefit from some punctuation. Otherwise, this comes across as awkward and unintelligible. I don't understand what you are trying to convey here. However, there is some fine imagery in these lines: "wild ribbons" "poor shrivel like plums" "history's fountain" are all pretty on their own. But in all, they don't culminate in anything particularly compelling.

On the whole, this endeavor is too vague to elicit any kind of emotional response. In fact, it's too vague to have any kind of meaning at all. I can glean from this that a romantic love has gone bad somehow. We're not given any substantial details about the relationship in this poem and the details we are given, frequently don't make much sense.
