I may not be the right critic for this piece, but you asked for my critique. You need a good editor, because you have talent, but need polishing. A lot of little, subtle stuff. I see promise.

High end greeting card poetry, which is not a bad thing as they sell more greeting cards than books of poetry, from what I can gather.

I enjoy poems that are beautiful, subtle and intelligible, capturing a moment laden with meaning. You succeeded beautifully in doing just that. Your style is very conducive to Sondheim-like songwriting for the stage.
