Almost three years ago, I sat down to write my first novel.  Over the course of those years, I began work on three more, effortlessly avoiding a commitment to any one work in particular while wrecklessly engaging myself in whichever novel met my mood. As you can well imagine, the approach was far more ambiguous than ambitious.

I’ve since taken a step back and started reading up on fiction writing, learning the things that editors look for in a attempt to hone my skills.  I was, metaphorically speaking, like a 6’4” 255 lbs. man gifted with immeasurable speed and strength and tried out for a football team not knowing a darn thing about the sport but just assumed I’d be a star.

Anno Domini The sun, warm and full, was peering through his Hourglass. Avoiding ambition, he holds On to his past and looks long into the Light as he lingers in the future. Crucified by the masters of the afterlife, His ambitious clowns, he carries his cross Across the lofts of a forbidden sky. Sunk into proportion, blown out of substance. Guided through reality, always in suspicion. Take this path the entire way, rest your soul away.

The line "You('re) just a distant memory" seems to contradict the rest of the piece seeing as how it's spent expressing loathsomeness for a past love(?). Distant memories shouldn't get as much attention as the lyrics provide, but, like i said, if the intent was to make the contradiction in order to emphaszie the narra...

At the least, it's enlightenment to the angst of young love/lust. More so, it might be too direct or maybe that is the overall intent. You might want to try being more elusive and allowing the reader to wander in their own thoughts while reading yours.
