Prologue The Calligrapher had a story to tell. If he could only write it down, perhaps the message of the story would soar through time and space and the words would find themselves in the hearts of those with eyes to see it and ears to hear it. So he sat himself down at his desk and made himself comfortable. Aided by only a single candle, a single roll of parchment, and a single quill with a lonely bowl of ink. If I don’t tell this story, he thought to himself--no one will. And it&rs...

I saw a fleet of golden ships sailing from the North, carried by a soothing wind, displaying the flags they bore Drifting along a mountain side and over a desert plain to lands beyond my ear and eye, to harbors black and grey. To their friend out in the West did they bid their fond farewells, as he settled down to rest in his great orange vessel. And as he lay in his mountain bed while Night let down her veil, the ships continued South ahead and brought down their red sails Their colors dimme...

From the unforgiving, ruthless desert to the vast devouring sea-- We are but seeds of grass planted in a field where thunderous and roaring clouds, cultivating winds and moving earth shape relentlessly our lives-- indiscriminate. And bolts of lightning carve the earth where fertile soil nourishes our blooming souls --or raging fires burn.

Short Story / A Bear Story

So you want to know about Bear Stories? Well, Bear Stories can be very violent indeed, much like Tiger Stories. They can also be very nice and gentle. Bear’s life revolves around things like family, raising good strong children, the strength in your claws, overwhelming your prey with immense strength, charging forward without hesitation and with intent, knowing how to maul, protecting what is yours at all costs—things like that. Some Bear Stories are good for children to hear but ...

You know what? I loved this. Honestly, I didn't quite understand all of it, so I'm certainly going back and reading this a few more times. Just the fact that I'm interested enough to even WANT to read this several times and try to get means that you're doing a good job. You catch the readers interest, I think. Mostly, I want to know how "she" is connected with you and who it is you're speaking to. Very interesting! I do have a question though: Does this poem necessarily even need to be a haik...
Wow!!! (clap clap clap) Excellent! 5 stars! I've heard Urbis reviewers comment negatively about the use of classical language in today's poetry...so I'm curious to see what others have commented on this, but, I'm not so sure I agree with those who think badly of it. Sure it's classical and no one today really uses it anymore, but when someone like you does, and does it well, it just flows so smoothely that I can't help but really like it. Now, admittedly, I have absolutely no idea how publis...

Haiku/Senryu / Love
This is lovely. Your last line, "A soul for my own" makes me think of self-love--I don't know if that was your intention...but "a soul for my own," seems to me like you're describing your own soul, rather than someone elses. I don't know if I would agree entirely or see that you could "own" someone else's soul, that's the only reason why I say that....
Haiku/Senryu / No kings
This Haiku immediately makes me ask a lot of questions: What do you mean by kings? Why is a Bodhisattva hungry? Is it because he's here in the west? Not just regular, superficial questions, but profound, deeply philosophical questions. BUT, this haiku is interesting to me...So...why is the Bodhisattva hungry, eh? My understanding is that a Bodhisattva is an individual who has attained Buddhahood but, instead of moving on, prefers to stay back within the realm of "maya" and help others along ...
